EC-3000 returned.....both of them

Well I picked up one of those black friday deals at PA. Figured this thing would fill my needs perfectly. Received compressor #1, got it all set up, topped off a couple guns, all is good. At least till the next day, unit wont power up. Checked the fuse, checked the power cord, just doesn't turn on. Call PA, get a RMA and shipping label, & I send it on its way. Replacement gets here, bottom of box was opened, silicone oil was half full on the compressor. Starting to wonder about this thing, did I get a refurb replacement? Top off the silicone oil, fill crankcase up, top off a gun and crank oil looks dirty, but it works. I fill another gun and retire for the night. Today I shoot a little and go to replenish air in the gun and guess what, it wont power up. Call PA again, pack it all up and EC-3000 #2 is going back for a refund. Hope you guys have better luck than I.
So now I'll be looking for another compressor in the same price range other than the Hill unit, suggestions?

Wow, nothing like the one I have. I went the other way - cheaper Chinese made - and the first one didn't even make one hour of use before it completely froze. I use the EC-3000 3-4 times a week and it has been stellar. Can't blame you for switching after being twice bitten! The Alkin is top of the line but a lot more money. Probably what I would get if the EC-3000 ever crapped out. The Carette II might also be a choice - closer in price to the Hill. There are plenty of folks out here that have both of these compressors.

Don’t know what was up with the 1’s you got but at 15 hours mine gave up the ghost. It appears it was a tiny o ring on the 3rd stage that was the problem but it will cost you at least $100 to get 1 from hill! Im keeping mine for a backup but moving on to an omega air charger as I’ve come to the conclusion it will hopefully be the best for filling guns and tanks for the money

When the Hill EC-3000 came out it cost $1,000 from PA. It sounded promising coming from an English manufacturer with a stellar long-term history in the PCP pump market. My enthusiasm was short lived as details were revealed about the design. The EC-3000 pistons are sealed by failure prone rubber o-rings just like those used in Omega compressors. My interest further diminished when Hill posted the price of replacement wear parts. Their proprietary replacement oil bottles must contain truffle oil for the ridiculous cost per ounce. The oil costs over $100 per liter. Their seal kits at $199 for a few small wear parts and some oil is a rip off. Even cheap Chinese compressors provide replacement wear prone parts with the initial purchase. This year the price skyrocketed to $1500 for an EC-3000. That price is out of touch with the market given the fact that it is only a direct fill compressor. The Hill shuts down to cool several times to top off a 480CC PCP cylinder. It appears that the recent sales discount promotions are in response to diminishing sales after the wallet busting price increases. Thanks, but no thanks.

Hate to say it guys but my little ole Yong Heng keeps chugging along. Going on three years with no issues. Can buy them now for under $250.00 with free shipping. At that price, if it goes bad, just deep six it and get another one. The replacement parts even coming from China get here within two weeks, are good quality and the units are easy to re-build. Can buy five at the price of that Hill. LOL!!

Been there and done this for almost 6 years now. The only thing which has been reliable up till now has been the boosters. A little F10 shoebox that chugged along and did a fine job. Then an Altaros Booster which di great as well. Every other option has been just as unreliable as the other - regardless of cost.

I finally broke down and bough the Alkin. IMO it really is just keep going through Yong Hengs or get yourself and Alkin. All the middle ground is of about the same reliability as the YH - don't buy any hype of the bells and whistles.
