Easing the pain shipping airguns...

And this is what you will get, even when the item was shipped in a case that is TSA and airline rated:

This is what happens. If something gets damaged the sender didn’t adequately package it. Age old excuse. Funny thing is that I’d be willing to bet that when these companies damage something the factory or distributor ships ( places that spend tons of money with these shipping companies) they don’t throw that excuse out there to deny claims. The one individual customer however doesn’t matter.

I'll add a story about USPS. I sent a brand new $940 scope to Leupold (CA to Oregon) for a custom reticle. I always track my packages but after a week of watching USPS tracking info it appeared the scope never arrived at the first waypoint along the route. I contacted Leupold to see if they had received it and they said they hadn't. I contacted USPS and after repeated attempts over the next week or so to locate it they ADMITTED they had lost it so I submitted an insurance claim for the full value of the scope. USPS denied my claim based on insufficient of proof of value even though I included Leupold's brochure showing the MSRP. USPS did not care what they lost was WORTH or what it would cost me to replace from a retail outlet, they wanted to know what I paid for it. So I asked them, what if was gifted to me....for free? All they said was "We need to know what you paid for it". So I re-submitted my claim with copies of the eBay add I won and the selling price (significantly less than $900) and they still denied the claim saying that did not prove that I was the buyer. I asked eBay to help by providing me with more detail than they ever provide on a completed auction and even eBay personnel were mystified at USPS' refusal to accept what I had submitted to date. The very day I was about to submit my 3rd and final allowed attempt to collect on the insurance Leupold emailed me (30 days later) to let me know my scope had arrived and they would be working on it. USPS tracking still indicated nothing more than that the scope had left the PO I dropped it off at. USPS will do anything to avoid honoring insurance and the thing that bugged me most......is that in the eye of the USPS it appeared they had won and made me just go away. Exactly the result they wanted. Someone at USPS probably got kudos or a bonus for "saving" USPS from paying out $940.

I worked for a UPS store. In any damage claim, UPS will say the package didn't meet UPS shipping standards. You will rarely get past this first step in a claim. You won't have any problems getting reimbursed for a damage claim IF you have the UPS store package the item for you. Yes, it will be a more expensive, but they'll put a yellow sticker on the package, saying it was packaged by the store. The UPS store pays for all damages, not UPS, so they will make sure it gets securely packed. Also, don't waste your time or money by putting FRAGILE stickers on the box. UPS does NOT have a fragile classification. All packages are handled the same. One exception has been mentioned here. If you ship NEXT DAY AIR, the package does NOT go on a convertor belt. It is handled by a person the entire way. Of course, this doesn't guarantee they won't damage it, but the chances are a lot lower. Next Day Air is expensive and if you can't get the buyer to split the cost, it won't be worth selling the rifle.

Purchased an airgun recently and talking with seller he said he always ship double boxed. Well all cardboard/ boxed are not created equally. From past experience things get thrown around during shipping. Not comfortable with the double box I shipped this hard case to seller for shipping. Sure enough package arrived (FedEx) big hole in cardboard box. Had this been all cardboard I hate to think what could have happened . Lot of insurance for a small price.View attachment 209471View attachment 209484

Ooof. OCD alert.😳

Had that happen once. Went through the hard case, punched through the cardboard as well. Muzzle was literally sticking out. Made a slight flat spot onto the muzzle of said rifle. The place I bought it from immediately took it back and made it right though.

Been thru that a couple times when I was in business. I always took a picture and included an invoice for repair and what type of rifle. When they ask for proof of purchase I would give them an appraisel from a catalog such as Beeman or AA. Picture, model etc same as my picture as it was laying in the shipping box and same as the reciever could show what he recieved. If your description, and aporasial matches what was shipped they will pay. Dont be afraid to take them to court, I did, ugly but got paid plus attorney costs in the settlement. If you have a legitiment claim they will pay if you can prove what you shipped, if your willing to takevthe time and pursue it.....
Outstanding. Who showed up in court to represent the carrier?

I bought a tuxing compressor on GTA a few years back. It was shipped from Lubbock Texas I believe which is 7-8 hours from where I live. The seller packaged it in the same packaging it came all the way from China in. UPS knocked a big hole in the crankcase, right through the thick cardboard and 1” foam protector.
After a week of sending pictures and talking to ups they determined the packaging was inadequate. Case Closed!
I JB welded the crankcase and it worked like a charm for two years!
