Spent yesterday up in beautiful New Hampshire with my friend and awesome gunsmith Scott Blair. Weather was warm but snow was still everywhere.
We spent the morning working on the finishing touches to complete the FWB 124 variants in this post. Once completed, we spent the afternoon shooting them to test them out. The 3 various rifles show just how versatile this ageless platform is.
First was a resurrection of an old Robert Law F120 model. I managed to find an F12CX that needed a new stock. The CX is basically a modern FWB124D with a tune. This particular one was tuned by Rob Hawkins. The stock came from Jim MaccarI on a chance lucky buy. These 120 stocks are extremely difficult to get . This one is fashioned from Myrtle Maple. Scott finished it in the same style as the original versions with a beautiful grip cap. The checkering was an homage to Paul Watts.
The second rifle is a Steve Corcoran design. Scott finished it with gorgeous checkering on the grip. A JM soft tune kit was installed along with a stainless steel trigger. The end result is a sublime lightweight shooter. Easy one hole groups at 30 yards!
Last up is my all original FWB124D Factory Walnut. This one came with all the goodies and has the original paperwork to boot.
All in all, it was a very memorable day of good times and sharing some unique weapons with a great friend. This is the kind of stuff that makes our sport so great. Guys like Scott are a true asset to our community and all deserve our heartfelt thanks.
