Dumb RTI shroud question

Yeah, yeah, dumb question

Six set screws loosened, a "little" heat to the end of the shroud...no movement.

To any that have done this, unscrewed the shroud from an RTI Prophet, Prophet Compact or maybe even the Priest, how much heat is required to loosen whatever threadlocker is keeping the shroud from moving ?

I don't want to burn up any o-rings..!

Got it.

I put a piece of silicone rubber sheet between the strap tool and the shroud. Started moving with a bit of a tug, then finally loosened.

Now to remove the disc at the end of the barrel..! I'm going to trim the o.d. into just three fingers rather than a full disc. Will still stabilize the shroud just fine, and will also pass much more air. Hopefully it works.

BUT...now IT's supper tight.! And I don't see any signs of a thread locker !

Thanks all.

Just a little FYI. Back before most people even knew what a RTI was, they had a different style centering ring. The one with all the micro holes was found to give better accuracy. When I built a FX barrel for mine, I just duplicated that ring. I figured if I couldn’t find a better spring or hammer weight than RTI did, I wouldn’t chance trying to reinvent their disc. So.......good luck.

I just swapped shrouds (still had to use the sticky rubber sheet) from the full sized Prophet to the Compact to see if the extra volume does anything.

Not a ton, but notable. Still has the same "crack" to the sound, just not as loud.

So, maybe I can get away with a single segment of the Huma silencer rather than two or three segments, keeping the barrel short, like it's supposed to be. If I can get the disc off and modified.

Mike

P.S. - Yeah, have not verified the accuracy yet.

NO...disc modification required..!

I tried something off of another gun. Makes the RTI (Prophet, Prophet Compact) ALMOST, church mouse quiet. Light, simple.

Only did a coupla shots this evening, not specifically for accuracy, but the few I shot looked good. Will try more shots tomorrow to verify.

Then I'll find out if the part can be easily purchased by people that don't want a big piece of aluminum hanging off the barrel/shroud.

All you need is baffles. Mine is backyard friendly with just 3d printed ones shooting over 30fpe. You could even just use some small sections of pvc pipe and fender washers of the correct size.

As Vetmx says those stock centering adapters are great. They must be very precise as when I got my .22 kit I measured the exit hole of the new end cap at about .26". That's not much clearance at all. I get ZERO clipping when I shoot.

The RT shroud must have some means of being centered on the barrel, anything like below? I can make wicked precise fender washer + aluminum tubing innards.

Mike I’m not trying to talk you out of modifying that disc, well, yes I am. It’s not going to make a difference in sound but you risk a difference in your accuracy. The RTI shroud does not have the diameter to make the difference you are looking for. Did you vent the back of your shroud yet?

Absolutely true. Modifying the air flow is a Big Deal and can cause bad accuracy or get lucky and have average results.

Will do some shooting today, and find out if this can be easily purchased, or will someone need to fire up their 3D printer...and go into a general part catalog for the second part.

Plus, there IS...more to it than what's noted (fender washers !) above for the same amount of quieting.

Mike

Howdy. What is the ID of the shroud?

Thanks
