Dual Reticle?

I've been keeping an eye on the concept 1-10x x 24mm Shorty scope from March. It'll probably be way out of my price range, but the fact they are able to put 10x and side-focus down to 10yards into something that size is pretty amazing.

I was looking around today to see if it was actually ever going to make it to market. I found this post from late August 2020 with a tech update to the concept to include a Dual Reticle system which combines SFP and FFP into the reticle. Pretty slick:

The 10Y side focus makes all the difference!

I can't even use my Burris XTR2 1-8 on 8x at close range it's so blurry, it has to be on low magnification instead.

Anytime there is a huge 10x mag ratio there are going to be optical compromises but if that's what sells.... There's already a huge surplus of 1-?'s on the market as is and 1x is really only useful for CQC so.... For me It'd be much better if they did a 1.25-10.

I'd have to see how well the Dual reticle system worked, I wonder what compromises exist in that???

Also super short scopes have optical compromises.

I just got a FFP March HM 5-42x56 and there are optical compromises showing above 35x. IMO March needs to steer away from huge ratios as well as super short scopes.

They do have the 1.5-15x SFP concept but I'm assuming same compromises since it's still a 10x zoom ratio.

Either way, I do wish there were more 1x or 1.5x scopes with 10 yard or less minimum side focus. Especially for us short range airgun pesters with astigmatism issues.

It's like looking at a wide angle convex mirror (like those small blind spot mirrors for your car or security side angle curved mirrors) at lower magnification. Very dizzying and nauseating effect (for MY EYES). Even seen them in European tier1 high end very expensive scopes.

Returned many high dollar high end scopes due to this even if the dealers say it's fine and perfectly normal last one was an S&B. My Japan made March-F 3-24x52 has it too. Pretty Bummed...

They say not everyone can see it (IDK But I sure as heck can!!!) Makes me really dizzy and wanna literally puke looking through them.

Like going through the funhouse looking at dizzy distorted mirrors in a way.

Yeah I saw that one on SH.

For me this scope might be okay??? Only because the exit pupal isn't horribly small on 15x so it wouldn't be getting dark like my 5-42 does. That 1.5 -15 for me would be a hunting scope anyway as it's main purpose so I could probably live with whatever happens in the compromise department. I'm sure it's a better scope than most of them out there anyway.

First world problems are rough to have, aye 😃

For me, as long as the compromises are at the upper ranges of magnification I'd be willing to live with some compromises. However, it seems some of March's earlier low magnification scopes have had their compromises at the low end - specifically complaints of a finicky eye box on low power.

Side note about this scope. On the concept model I posted above they show and list capped turrets. On the EuroOptic link they show both models having un-capped turrets.

I just got in the Vortex Razor 3 1-10 , I had it for about 2 weeks , It is a great hunting scope , it has a 34mm tube , it has a true 1x and the illumination is very bright , I found the LPVO dont really need a adjustable parallax , as lover power it is not affected like it would be at say 20x vs 1-10 x , I am sure the March is a great scope just like the Razor 3

Ever see a moving picture pan across a scene and things in the middle seem to loom up at you? maybe the edges look bowed, too? An actors nose suddenly looks gigantic when it hits dead center then shrinks as he turns his head? That's common to fish-eye lenses, made to show as wide an angle as possible. Really wide angle lenses can make the image look fine when stuff is at its proper distance, but make it look like it's bowing in on you when something is too close, and make for disorienting distortions when stuff too close is moving around. I think that's what Odoyle is referring to.
