Dry firing Airguns[pcp[

i try to never get in a spot where dry firing must take place ,but i see it being done all the time,,new vid with Tom and the Crown,he did it once ,Martin at Raw says you can bend valves by dry firing ,,,is it ok if there is air in the tank ? or empty ?,please if u know let me know .let us all know pat

As far as I know, firing on low or no pressure is more likely to damage the valve and spring because of the lack of back pressure helping to close the valve. So it gets smashed into the spring/valve collar and can be damaged. If that makes any sense. I know that Air Arms suggests dry firing to empty their guns of air, so perhaps the valve system is more rugged than others? If you want to de-cock the gun, most pcp's can be made safe by holding the side lever or bolt in the open/back position and pulling the trigger then gently releasing the bolt/lever handle instead of dry firing.

The FX Royales definitely should not be fired dry as several members have found out here. The Brocock Compatto can be dry fired to zero pressure as well as Benjamin Marauders. It depends on the valve construction and other factors that vary from model to model and manufacturer to manufacturer. No easy answer other than compiling a list of each model from each manufacturer for the entire picture!

From your report we can add the RAW guns to the DO NOT DRY FIRE list!

Actually, that wasn't a dry fire. I had the safety on during the intro sequence and at 13:26 and 13:28 I guided the bolt back. 
As the other members have wrote. Dry firing = bad times eventually.

I think more manufactures need to push that dry firing without pressure is Bad for the valve.

Something that caught my eye while watching the review and 200yd golf ball shot from AirGun Depot was that the host was talking about making adjustments to the regulator either increasing or decreasing and all air had to be out of the receiver and valve. He said to take the bottle off and fire the gun a couple of times to relieve the pressure. Seems like that's playing with fire. I'd suggest loosening either a gauge or in the case of the Royale's the stock bolt stud fitting. Was wondering if anyone else thought the same thing.

I went back and watched it. I can easily see how that looks like a dry fire. I de-cocked it really quick! lol!
