FX DRS Tactical First Impressions

I received the DRS Tactical in .25 with the 600mm barrel yesterday from Utah Airguns and got it out to shoot today. The paperwork from UA said it was tuned to 900fps with JSB Kings. I don’t have a bipod to fit the Arca rail yet, so I shot off my deck railing. This rifle is really accurate; when I could steady my aim, it was putting holes in holes and holes touching holes at 50yds. The trigger is really light and I fired off a couple of shots before I was ready before I got used to it. I got 3 magazines out of it between 225 and 160 bar before refilling; there is an error in the manual that’s says it’s a 250 bar fill, it’s 230. I shot it without a moderator and it was not terribly loud but with the Impulse moderator it was much quieter. Not to knock another gun, but after shooting the DRS my Avenge X will now be gathering dust.

Think the 34 grainers are the King "Heavies". I'd have to go look in my shop to be sure though.

Have you had a chance to chronograph it yet? Curious as to the 'actual' fps.

I'm giving one of these some serious consideration. I have mostly 25 Caliber PCP's and prefer how they take squirrels down over a 22. Would like to go with the 500mm, but am afraid that it would be underpowered. 900 fps sounds good to me though. How do you feel about the length, particularly with the IA moderator on it? Akward or a bit long?

Thanks again,

Jerry

I haven’t chronographed it, but Utah Air chronographed it with the JSB King 25 grain before shipping to me. It shoots 900 fps with the Kings. I wanted a rifle that was accurate to 75yds and Josh at UA ensured me that the DRS with a 600mm barrel would suit my needs. I’ve shot it out to 60yds and it will hit a 1” dot every time. It looks a bit long with the moderator, but not as loud as I expected without the moderator.

roll a towel up to rest your gun on till you get your rail set up. Thats typical accuracy with FX in my experience. Enjoy!
PS the 34gr shoot a little better in the wind (900-930) fps but you’re going to lose a few shots per fill.
Thanks for the tips. My $30 bipod and Arca adapter came today, had to do a little modifying since the holes were off. Got to shoot it with the bipod and it’s much steadier. My backyard is pretty protected, and beyond 30yds is heavily wooded with an open strip out to 80yds, it pays to have a son with a Bobcat. So the 25 grain works for me except on very windy days., I may have to pick up some 34s just for fun.

They are GREAT guns. Made to pick up and shoot out the box.

I have the 25 caliber 700mm and I fill it to 250 bar most of the time with no issues. Reg seems set at about 120 bar from factory, 700mm has heavy liner so I shoot mostly 25 JSB king heavy 34gr (880 fps) and get about 4 mags before it drops off reg.

Nice, mine is that length with a moderator attached. I wasn’t sure of the regulator setting so I refill before it reach 150bar. I probably won’t refill above 225 since 230 is the recommended max fill. Operating between those pressures give me 3 magazines (30 shots) before I refill. I only ordered 3 magazines from Orion Iguana Hunter, so it works perfectly for me.

From what I read somewhere the 500/600 regs are set at 100 and the 700 are 120. I can only give my 700 as an example and right around 120-130 on the main reg is when I notice shots open up.

You could call Utah and get more info on your reg setting, wouldn't surprise me for you to get 4 mags per fill. I generally keep my guns at or just under factory recommended pressure settings.
