Dreampup moderator/shroud

I have just ordered myself a .22 dreampup. I am in NZ, and believe that there is no way to mount a silencer/moderator in it's current state. So what have others done? Is there and adapter that fits onto the end of the shroud, or can a new, bigger shroud kit be added that will quieten it down?

I did try and search for this, but had no luck, so sorry if it's been covered before. I have seen the Air-fective kits online too.

At least in US all Dreamline models are shipped with standard 1/2 inch thread

Most already with Donny FL silencers

Not sure about NZ

As you can see in a second picture shroud at the end has thread with cap, it covers standard 1/2 in. thread

I also noticed that some have the barrel support attached to the underside of the scope rail. Is this an aftermarket mod or std now?

I received the gun today. Wow, it's amazingly light! I have only had a few moments to fire it a couple of times over the chrony and see what changes the dials make. 18 shot mag, I feel sorry for the local rabbits already.

Anyway, back to the shroud. For some funny reason to do with the length, the NZ models don't have a threaded adapter on the shroud, so I am going to have to fit something aftermarket. I took the shroud off, and although I have a 500 mm barrel, the shroud extends approx 140mm past the barrel. Of course I could remove the shroud and fit a silencer straight onto the threaded end of the barrel, but it looks way better with the shroud. I could cut the shroud down a bit and get an adapter for the end, but of course it would have to be done properly. Or just cut the shroud to but up against a silencer screwed straight onto the barrel, and turn up a small support to hold the shroud on centre.

So any suggestions? Air-fective shroud kit, or anything else?

This is a pic of my gun without the mod on it. It was very loud so definitely NOT backyard friendly. Your shroud must have a lot of baffles in it or yours would be equally loud! If yours is quiet, I’d leave it alone

Yea, that sounds a good plan. I don't think there are any baffles, but just a chamber. I would say it is subdued, but still pretty loud on high power.

I like your spacers for the but pad, I need a little more length on mine too.

They’re 3/4” nylon spacers/washers. The stock screws are #6 but I needed 2” screws. I have 2” trim head cabinet screws that are a #8. So the total cost I have into it is .53 cents. Painted the spacers black to match. Made a huge difference, happy I did it. Joe Kool bought a wildcat magazine holder butt stock that’s really nice also for giving a little extra length and a nice look.

Ok, so I have had a little play with things. I took the shroud off and just tried it with the moderator. I have a Weihrauch mod, and that works a treat. So I am going to get carbon fibre tube and make a shorter shroud, as I like to be able to return things to original, as I didn't really want to cut the original shroud at this stage.

One thing I noticed was that the barrel support lifts the barrel up about a mm at the muzzle, so obviously poi changes quite a bit. So until I sort out the shroud, I turned up a delrin ring to hold the barrel in the original position in the barrel support temporarily. The photos show the difference before, and after I slip the ring in place.

 

So this makes me wonder if I am better off just free floating the barrel, but then I like the look of the shroud. So my options could be:

1, No shroud, totally free floating

2, Shroud fitted, but remove barrel support

3, Shroud fitted with barrel support, but pack out barrel support so barrel sits in it's natural position, but has that protection of the barrel support. See photo.

It would be great if the barrel support was adjustable like adjustable scope mounts are. Maybe there's a 3D printer out there that could make an adjustable barrel support that can be tightened once barrel sits in it's natural lie. They could send it to me and I will trial it, for free! Vague concept drawn onto the second photo.

I'm not rough enough with my guns that I would bump it all the time, so removing the barrel support would be fine for me, but then it also gives the scope rail and barrel a bit of rigidity in the event of getting bumped. So keen to hear others thoughts, even though asking about free floating can open a can of worms.
