Hello AirgunNation Peoples,
All my PCP’s have a specific purpose. Some are walk and stalk airguns, some are for the bench, but my Dreamline Classic .177 is especially for small pest elimination. Small pest elimination at distances anywhere between 15 to 35 yards discreetly and quietly around the yard.
My current reigning champion for this task (backyard pest elimination) is my Vortek SHO tuned Air Arms Pro-Sport .177 / Walnut. This spring powered airgun is noted for being the “best looking production spring piston airgun ever made” airgun legend Terry Doe. With it’s high grade Lothar Walther barrel over the years mine has plugged 75 to 100 squirrels right in the think-box.
So, the question remains... Can my FX Dreamline Classic .177 (PCP) be a good substitute now and again as good as my finely tuned AA Pro-Sport .177 (Springer) at the average 25 yard distance?
Only one way to find out.. Have a 10 shot group 25 yard group size shoot out. LET’S GO!!
The airguns, ammo, and speeds/energies.
Dreamline Classic .177
JSB Exact Monster Diabolo 13.43 grain
Dreamline Classic .177 speed/energy
Air Arms Pro-Sport .177
Air Arms Diabolo Field 10.3 grain
AA Pro-Sport .177 speed/energy
Now, down to the nitty-gritty the 25 yard setup and 10 shoot groups, same distance as my feeder.
The Pro-Sport .177 went first.
The Dreamline Classic .177 was next.
Next, I went out to photo the groups and noticed I had a little spectator.
Anyways here are the groups.
The Air Arms Pro-Sport .177’s 10 shot group measured (widest center-to-center) 0.84 inches from 25 yards.
The FX Dreamline Classic .177’s 10 shot group measured (widest center-to-center) 0.80 inches from 25 yards.
Well, the results are in and it seems that the differences are null and void. A 0.04 inch difference in group size isn’t going to matter much on a 25 yard headshot squirrel. So, absolutely yes my .177 PCP is more than welcome to share the purpose of backyard pest elimination with the .177 Springer. I’m very pleased!
