I was able to sight in a 16 moa red dot by matching the round target size to the dot size at the yardage I was shooting at. I used 4” circle target at 25 yards and was able to get 1” shot groups with a pistol. Another way is to use a bigger target and center the dot in the target. Our eyes and brains are very good at lining up circles that’s why peep sights work so well and why new shooters can get fantastic results really fast with peep sights.

You have apparently a cheaper sight as you note. Most cheaper sights have "large" diameter dots. They are easier to manufacturer.

You can go all the way down to a 1moa dot but they aren't cheap.
Easier to buy are 3moa dot sights, but better, save your money and get a 2moa dot. These won't "cover" much of anything !

Also as noted, the Chevron type reticle is a very good design, but again may cost a bit more.

Here's a red dot I bought earlier this week. 2 moa circle dot with shake awake. Dot seems crisp and clear. I ordered an ADE with the same specs, got it Wednesday. It was nowhere near as clear, red dot seemed larger and not nearly as sharp. So I ordered another Votatu yesterday. Just keep in mind I have virtually no experience with red dots so it may not be as good as I think.

only got around 1200ish starlings and pigeons last summer hahaha :cool:

was thinking normal scope reticles,my bad lol

obviously a circle/horseshoe/post etc... will not cover your aim point.

funny i saw this,
im currently waiting on the mail lady to drop off a scope today with an open reticle to go on my sig virtus for shooting steel at an accelerated rate :)
it has a tiny tiny dot in the very center which is useful for sighting,
but has a thick circle with an open bottom.

but in reading it seems you may be talking about a red dot style sight.

big dots are no fun,
i always run mine on the lowest setting that i can and still see it in the current lighting conditions.
almost makes it transparent.

I did not mend to offend in any way. The short answer is not the retical should not cover the intended tatget. It seems that it was my lack of experince in useing a dot. I have worked out the problem after another day of shooting.
The scope is a Monstrom 2x6. They seem to sale for about 130 dollars on Ebay. The scope has been a learnig experince. The first focal plane thing and the dot are new to me.

first focal plane does take a bit of getting used to,but it comes with many benefits.
