DonnyFL Tatsu - Seneca Aspen .22

When choosing which moderator to buy, I wanted to keep the gun short, so went with the Tatsu. It is definitely enough to make both the low and high power quieter than the hammer spring, so if you care about length, this one is enough for this gun. I’m pretty new to all this, so won’t be able to give much more info than that. It works very well at making a very fun gun backyard friendly.

Mine needed the .25, since the barrel is not perfectly centered in the shroud.

Also, if you ever need to contact them for customer service he is just is friendly and helpful as everyone else says he is.

Mod edit: moved to Other Parts, Accessories and Equipment forum

I think it looks even better with the visible moderator. The product is of high enough quality it looks like it was already part of the gun. I'm attaching some pictures. Yours is going to look a little different, since i cut my stocks in half (the front pieces were too bulky, and didn't seem to be providing much protection), added some padding around the front of the air tube (for protection, and so i don't need material to put down if i need to rest it on a hard surface), and made the butt of the stock attachable by velcrow, w/places to hold allen wrenches and magazines.

the pellets were barely clipping the inside of the moderator. I had to swap it out for a .25 so you may want to order the .25 initially. after it happened, i did more research and found that others recommend going this route for guns where the shroud extends further than the barrel, since the pellet has time to get off centered from the shroud.

let me know if you would like any more pictures/angles.

Thanks for the quick reply sticman77

I've e-mailed Donny for his recommendation.

I must admit I too like the difference in diameters between the shroud & the silencer.

The side pieces are an interesting choice in cuts; and an excellent (but aggressive) way to get rid of the big white letters.

Looks very good!!!

If you ever take the shroud padding off I'd be curious to see the front end without it

Please DO NOT take it off just for me to see

I have a pretty good visual imagination

However 2 photos I would like to see are

- side view with the pump handle open

-- straight on front view showing the new lines (essentially how it looks to the squirrel)

Curious (again) to see how you filled in around the front pieces (if you did)

The butt stock storage compartment is brilliant.

Will the mags & tools float around; or is there a plan to a make a place for each item?

Does the butt pad simply unscrew, or did you need to cut it off?

All in all these are great ideas; well executed executed

Best

Ed

front view. the moderator will definitely be the focal point of what they see. at least they will have something nice to look at

better picture of stock with magazines. i filled it mostly with spray insulation. after it expanded but was a little wet i filled the rest with some precut this stuff https://www.dollartree.com/gentle-grip-green-foam-floral-blocks-4-piece/104754 so it fit in the stock and had slots for two magazines, single loader, and the allen keys. to be honest, i may take the green foam out, and replace it with all my accessories wrapped in a light cloth. that way i can also pack the moderator in there for transport. i think a towel will prevent the hollow sound well enough.

the velcrow straps are gorilla glued onto the rubber part, with the opposite piece also gorilla glued onto the stock. if someone has a solution they think would be more secure i'm all for recommendations.

close up view of the front cut off. i may make it less square once i feel more comfortable cutting plastic. i only filed it down a bit so it wasn't rough, and covered with some gaffers tape. i was going to cover this section with gaffers tape either way, because i like the feel of the matte tape grip compared to the smooth plastic. i've also done this on the grip section of the stock. this is my small game / prepper gun, so its got some rough looking parts for function :)

Thanks

It looks better each time I come back to it.

If you ever want to get rid of the gaff tape that's being used to give a good grip you might consider spray on (canned) truck bed liner.

A fella in the forums mentioned he used it; and another chimed in that he had also.

It's not worth finding the post as it was simply a mention without detail.

One of these days that is what I will do to the entire stock; leaving the pump handle, barrel, shroud and all the mechanics as built.

There's not much color choice in bed liners; black, tan, & olive are all that I have found so far

If that's the case, olive it will be

Thinking about shortening the forward stock:; an idea you may well find stolen from you

I flipped my freedom belly up and visualized the shortened stock

It appeared to me that the pump (especially the pump oiling hole) would be left unprotected from dust & dirt

Did I visualize this correctly; or does the pump handle seal things off?

It must be nice having a knock around rifle.

Especially one like the Freedom

The rifles here ( Freedom, Liberty 22 on the way, and our favorite multi shot break barrel) all earn a living

We do not "go hunting"

We shoot varmints to protect the fruit in our home mini orchard.

Tried teaching the squirrels to share; and they just don't get it.

That handsome front view could be the last thing the ever see

Thanks again for the info

Ed

Ooof. It appears the pump handle does not seal things off. as long as you cut along the cross sections AND go further than i did, it should still seal off

here is a view showing that i did not go far enough, leaving my oiling hole more exposed than i should have left it. looks like i'll be thinking of a way to keep it protected, before i do some research into the truck lining. thanks for the tip! that will look much nicer than my tape.

i hope the fresh fruit is worth all the extra work, and you get to actually enjoy the shooting every now and then!

I see

You missed on your cut by about an inch and a half or so.

I'm staring at mine right now trying to come up with an idea for you.

All I have is laying some plastic wrap in the trough

If anything better develops I'll let you know

About the bed liner paint

Go to this thread, page # 2; post # 32 for a small picture of what one person did

https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=150123.20

He did not paint the pump handle; and that may be a good idea.

It is a coating after all; and if some were to chip off and get at the pump it could cause problems

Bear in mind this is just my conjecture.

Airgun Guru I ain't.

Just a novice.

Like you??

That favorite break barrel is a Gamo Swarm Fusion 10x Gen 2

I do not think it is a very popular rifle.

Maybe because it is a bit pricey for what you get; but we (especially she, the better shot) love it

Our review is posted on Pyramyd fwiw.

Now about those squirrels.......................................

that sounds as good as any solution. i might go to the hobby store and see if i can glue some foam over it similar to the foam in the pump. seems like it should filter dust well, and i can tear it off and replace in intervals.

thanks for the link! i think i'll keep it off the pump. i want the pump somewhat smooth because i pump it in different ways. i put a lot of rounds through it so switch which part of my arms / shoulders i'm using to pump.

very nice review thanks again. at some point i want to get a multi shot break barrel. i like the idea of self sufficient guns that take really cheap ammo.

Good morning

Whatever you do, keep that pump & its air inlet clean

When you get to thinking about multi-shot break barrels there are many of them on the market.

Our criteria was very specific; & at that point we had very little knowledge of silencers that could e added to a rifle.

There is a lot of info to be had in the forums

This one is a good one; as is Gateway to Airguns

Anything I know comes from reading; with very little real life experience; and could be consider fake know how

That may be true about more than air rifles BTW

    Take care

i guess i'll know how clean i kept it once i hit my first pump fix! i've put a few thousand rounds through with no leaking yet. and any binding is fixed up with some lube.

break barrel will be my next self sufficient gun with cheap ammo. this new hobby may get expensive.

if you come back to this thread would also like to see what donny recommends, to see if in the future we should be blanket advising others to go with the .25

HEy

Here are Dinny's words

definitely go with the .25 caliber for this gun. In general any gun where the suppressor is not screwed directly onto the barrel I would use one size up because most of the time the barrel is not 100% centered in the shroud.

If you want to blanket the forum with them be my guest.

Keep my name off it please.

I do not feel tenured (or knowledgeable) enough to be giving advice to a pride of seasoned air gunners
