Donny FL QD Mount - do you go one size UP?

With Donny FL, they recommend that one goes ONE SIZE up when using the QD mount.

For example, if you shoot .25, go .30.

Two questions:

1. Anyone here use the QD and use the proper-sized moderator rather than going one size up? For example,if you have .22, you use .22 with the QD rather than .25.

2. Generally, my understanding is that one wants the smallest aperture (hole size) possible for maximum moderation. Any sense of whether it is noticeable reduction in moderation going from a .25 to a .30?

I have migrated most of mine to .30 as that is the largest caliber I shoot. The difference in sound signature and air stripping seems to be far more affected by the volume of the can than by the diameter of the through hole.

I use a qd on a 22 yokozuna on a 75 fpe 22. I haven't had any baffle strikes and I'd like to think I'd notice if I did at that energy. 1 up is safe and ads some diversity to the mod. I did notice on a home brew mod that it counterintuitively got quieter as I increased the bore diameter to .3125 for a 22 semi auto that has a tone of muzzle blast.

I know I'm an outlier in my obsessive alignment if moderators with bore up to and including arbor shims or strips of shim stock and re tapping threads to a lesser tolerance spec to allow the wobble needed to straighten them out. As vetmx says, sometimes will power, tools and time are as much a blessing as they are a curse.

To this I must add another thing that shocked me in it's counter intuitive results. I had a larger shroud with an air stripper and a ronin on the same gun. A huge amount of expansion volume, and the yokozuna is as quiet or quieter with less volume and some pretty intense baffles. It blew my mind.

Just goes to show that physics is complex. Never would have thought a larger aperture diameter would reduce perceived decibels.

It's not a glorified muffler(this is highly reductive) . It's got something like k baffles re imagined for compressed air. A lot of intense engineering and probably quite a few more machine operations. PLUS you can harmonic tune with it to a rough degree by removing baffle segments as i have done. 6 inch groups went to 1 hole by dropping one segment and its noise didn't increase noticeably.

I would say if you went from a 6" group to a 1" group just by removing one baffle that your can was just long enough with the one extra baffle that you were getting an internal strik near the end. Just my $0.02.

I looked at it and didn't see any skid marks . It's a 700mm barrel and at 100 yards. My gun has always been picky about barrel harmonics with lighter slugs in all of it's various iterations WITH the tungsten hammer. And not 1 inch, 1 ragged hole. It was harmonics, including an increase in reg pressure by 3 bar.
