Dog Fight

There was a dog fight late at night about 3 days ago in my backyard. The coyotes have been getting bold lately as my pecans are starting to drop to the ground due to finally getting a good long hard freeze (12 hours around here). The racoons are also taking advantage of this as well and I have eliminated 3 or 4 in the last 7 days. Well back to the dog fight .... my dog is an American Bulldog and he really hates coyotes. I mean REALLY hates them. He will not tolerate a coyote and when one comes right into the middle of HIS territory he couldn't take it anymore. I slipped the door open when I spied the coyote and off my Bulldog went with a LOUD bark. The coyote spied him and me just a moment too late. It was all over quickly for the coyote thanks to my Fierce Bulldog. Oh I need to give credit also to my dogs favorite food .....

Nielsen 95 grain hollow points in .357 :p and thanks to X-Sight Pro 4K as well as to JSAR for the Balanced Valve and hammer spring upgrade which was pushing the 95 grain slug right around 1000 fps. I found the coyote today about 50 yards from where my Bulldog got him. The Coyote was quartering towards me when I took the shot. It was a clean through the chest just in front of the shoulder .. lung / heart / lung shot with total pass through.

You might notice in the last picture my Cat is giving his approval of the Kill! He is not too keen on dogs in general but the Benjamin Bulldog is his lifelong friend. Too bad I did not capture a picture of the cats tail because it was at full PUFF! lol

I am not sure I would even let the dog out for a Mountain Lion. They do range through here every few years and I usually lose a few choice beef yearlings when a big cat comes through. I would probably let the Texan .457 loose with a 500 grain slug or the Extreme Big Bore in 41 caliber and a very fast moving 250 grain slug through the ear for a Big Cat.

Great story and shot! I've been leaving the coyotes alone since I've found feral cat fur in their scat. Got em fenced out so unless I'm to see one inside the perimeter they can help keep the feline population down to manageable levels.

I'm a couple hundred miles west of you give or take. Never have had much hog activity around here because of desert conditions but they have been moving this way for whatever reason. Maybe they'll bring more rain with them 😁

At you guys proding I sent a link to Crosman!

I am growing to like the X-Sight. It is nowhere as clear as a glass scope but the Pro version has a vastly better screen over the old version of X-Sight II. One issue is it blinds one eye due to screen brightness in the dark even at the lowest setting. I also never remember to activate the video capture but I'll get some footage one of these days. Someday I would like to have a Thor because it is a true thermal vision scope but the price is LARGE $$$$.

I can't afford to ignore the coyotes since I am a cattle raiser and barbed wire fences tend to not be an effective deterrent to coyote movement into my yard ;) . I am in what is technically the Upper Chihuahuan Desert which extends well into Texas from Northern Mexico. Hogs move in during wet spells and out during dry seasons. Had 50 or more in the front yard late one night a few weeks ago. They are currently rooting up prickly pear cactus, eating ripe fruit from same and johnsongrass rhizomes. I see signs every day.
