Do you have dogs yourself?
I have now seen well over 20 cases of sarcoptic mange (scabies) this year in dogs. Normally, I MIGHT see 1 per year, so this is a heavy year to say the least. I have also seen around 12 cases of leptospirosis (a deadly bacterial infection transmitted by the urine of raccoons, fox, possum, etc) and likewise I usually only see 1 to 2 per year.
I am not certain why I have see this explosion of these cases (maybe people are walking their dogs more often due to being home with them?) But it's worth noting. I had a case 2 days ago where an elderly couple had been going to their dermatologist for 4 months misdiagnosed as psoriasis. One look at their 4 lb dog that sleeps with them, and I scraped the skin to find the scabies mite..now they are on correct treatment.
(Excuse the audio...I was busting the chops of another veterinarian who misdiagnosed this dog as Canine Atopic Dermatitis....its the only video I have of the mite on this dog)
My point is, if you have dogs you might want to let that fox know not to frequent your area. EVERY single case of mange or leptospirosis the owner reported to ke that fox either frequent their property, or the know a den is on or near their property, and none of those foxes looked sickly to the people, but I lost 12 patients of mine to leptospirosis, and multiple dogs suffered with scabies.
