Does anyone have a source for tall dovetail quick release 1 inch scope mounts ?

I only have one pair of quick release rings and they're just inexpensive UTG's. I tried them with the spring loaded UTG dovetail to picatinny adapters and like you felt the connection wasn't tight enough. So I understand the problem.

I had much better luck with the dovetail to picatinny adapters that clamp in place with screws. My only problem then was they were either too tall or too long for what I was trying to do.

Too long isn't necessarily a problem but as I recall the ones that were the height I was looking for had screw placement that didn't lend themselves to being shortened and fitting on the short section of dovetail rail I was trying to fit to.

Since you need tall rings anyways the height of the dovetail adapters that screw on might not be a problem for you. And you might have more rings to choose from once that height is taken up by the adapter.

One final thought. If you can find 30mm dovetail QR rings you could shim them to 1". I don't know if such rings exist, however.

HI, yes I thought about the screw-on adapters, but they're a bit too long. I have a rail over the bolt section, and a bit of a rail (20mm) above the breech. Those screw on adapters are 37 mm long, and it appears the screw centers would be about 25 mm apart. I may just buy a pair to see, but after careful photo analysis, I'm pretty sure I'm right. This sure is an adventure......

As I recall I found some dovetail to picatinny adapters at Cabelas that come in one of those packages you can open and re-close without cutting. I used them as a dry fit mockup and then returned them. I think I found some with closer spacing but they were too tall so I returned them. But they might work for you.

I might have a couple around that I can measure. I'll try to get to that today.

Also, somebody posted a smaller, screw on adapters recently that I hadn't seen before. I'll see if I can find that thread.

I was not able to find the thread I was looking for but since you need tall rings I think some of the threads below will help. I think some of the adapters mentioned will have screw spacing close enough for you to get adapters on both sides of your breech.

You may have to cut a rail for it to work, as discussed in one of the links. One of the BKL product looks like it would work without modification at all.
