Do we need a Budget Shooter Section?

It it just me, or do we need a budget section? It seems like everyone is pushing high end rifles which kind of makes it hard to find any info for those of us who stick to backyard plinking. I'm sure there are plenty of budget shooters out there yet I can't help but feel like we're crowded out by the more high end stuff.

I've never spent more than $200 on a rifle and never more than $50 on a scope yet I feel like I'm getting comparable performance to the more expensive stuff.

That said, yes, the higher end stuff is higher quality, but I feel like the sub $200 rifles can still give plenty of fun. I even buy pellets on the cheap, at under $0.05 per pellet, usually closer to $0.02.

Anybody else feel the same?

Good idea. I just put a new cup seal on my old Crosman 766 Pumpmaster and took it out and forgot how much fun it was to plink with a light weight, EASY to pump, open sights air gun. Five pumps and I was easily getting 11/4" groups at 20 yards. It was a joy pumping that gun after almost getting a hernia cocking my Diana 54. It has me seriously thinking about picking up a Barra 1866 just for that reason.

Budget rifle Seneca Dragonfly Mk2 check this one out . it is my next purchase @ $199.00 And yes a Budget topic would be good . you have my vote .

im not sure "budget" and air gun hobby go together ?

I was thinking sub $250 for rifles, sub $150 for pistols, sub $50 for scopes/sights and under $0.05 pellets.

That may change with inflation of course, but it's a start.

I don't want to be a contrarian, but I am not sure you're correct. If there really were more budget shooters posting in the existing sections (traditional, PCP, air pistols) they would be drowning out the people who are spending more on their hobby.

It just takes effort.

And people who spend more money are either:

1. Sponsored or subsidized or hoping to get sponsored or subsidized

2. Just that more passionate after spending (probably more than we should).

Anyway, I'm not against a budget section, I just don't see what is keeping the hoards of budget shooters from creating posts and interacting with the existing sections.

Like @kwk, said, they're already included, definitely not excluded. Most of the budget minded shooters already in the game, understand you don't need a 2-3K rig shooting expensive pellets or slugs to take critters out to 50 yards or so, or to plink in their yards. The budget minded crowd is just more resistant to the marketing of the expensive PCPs and sundries and don't post as much. They're less inclined to fall for the expensive flavor of the moment. So for me it's a no, it's better that we are all in the mix together. Good post though... And there's always GTA.😀

dont be afraid to barge right in with your budgrt gun .. id say half+ the posters on here are dealers pushing their crap lol .. everybody likes to talk about their 'other' guns to though .. heres my akela i just dialed it and smoked a co2 off the gate post at 55 ... fun stuff .. it needed alittle clearancing on the stock to clear the mechanism, trigger was erratic ..

If we have to include a budget section, then it must be done for all sections. A budget section in PCP DIscussion, Traditional Rifles (Springers), Optics, etc. I don't think we need to add it. Whoever the OP is, they just need to ask the right questions. "Looking for a PCP under...$?", "What's the best Springer under...$?", and so forth. Just list your budget and everyone else will chime in. JMO.

I have to admit I’m not entirely sure what benefit there is to creating a separate section,

Now that I think about it a forum I used to enjoy kind of subdivided into so many groups that none of the groups had enough people in them to have any steam. Either that or folks got bored at the same time they started making all the sub groups.

So I love the idea of communicating mainly to those who share my interests but not to the point of missing opportunities to communicate with a wider spectrum of enthusiast I guess

I would like to see a sub $500 section, but don’t know if it’s right for AGN. It just seems like the below top tier guns don’t get a lot of attention here. I’ve posted a few things about my Krals with very little attention so a dedicated forum may not do any better. I use GTA and love that forum, you get a lot more hits over there on the cheaper or traditional stuff. The only problem imo with GTA is they don’t get near as much traffic as AGN, that’s why I would like to see a a new forum here.

First thought yes, second thought no.I will stick with no;Why is because I think more people have to budget their air gun purchases and are in the majority and should post a lot more than they do.....maybe they are too busy having fun with their "budget' air gun and have less time to brag?

When I say budget,I am thinking less than $500....why is it because there are many great fun accurate air guns at prices below that number.

Less than $200 can work but would leave out the great springers and budget PCP pistols and rifles.

Another problem with a budget section is that it separates too much and we know separate is not equal.

No i don’t think we need a budget sub forum. It would just clutter the site. I don’t see why guys can’t post budget gun threads on the existing categories. I imagine some guys feel embarrassed to post about their budget gun amongst threads about $1000+ airguns.

If your thread isn’t getting enough attention don’t sweat it. I’ve posted threads before that received one reply. It happens. Also, might be that there ain’t alot of folks that own your particular rifle. I’ve made and seen other threads about budget guns that receive plenty of replies. 2 guns that come to mind are $250 air pistols: pp700 and pp750. They are very popular and owned by quite a few members.

All you budget only guys, don’t feel apprehensive to post about your budget guns. Even the guys who own high end guns have a budget gun or two in the collection
