Other Do I need a moderator?

I have never found any of my rifles to shoot better with a moderator, in fact not one shot as well with a moderator. I live way out in the country so sound is not an issue for me.
Now on the other hand shooting my pistols indoors I do like to use a moderator.

I'll agree with Thomas, I think unmoderated generally gives the highest precision, at least in my experience, but at the cost of increased muzzle report.

That is up to you... you don't need one, and Thay don't add any advantage except less noise. Do I use one yes! I'm a construction contractor, around loud noises all day, and I enjoy shooting much more with the moderator than without it. Also, it will help with follow up shots if you are a hunter, it could mean the difference in multiple take downs, or just one and go home. If you shoot in an urban environment, you will want to keep the Noice down for sure. Target back stops can make a lot of noise as well, so you may want to deaden the impact sound there as well. There are many brands to choose. I have only tried one, was happy with the results and see no need to spend the money, instead, I buy more pellets, and go shoot! So, it's up to you, do you need one?

Yes, I use one (Donny FL Ronin, .30). My experience is that my guns are a hair more accurate with it.

I've never seen a moderator add to a guns accuracy but I have seen them go the other direction.
They most always will change the point of impact.
I use them on a lot of my pcp rifles because I just love the satisfying "thump".

I live out in the country, but I love quiet. All of my guns are accurate with moderators, so I have no need to try them without one.

I hunt, so keeping noise to a minimum sure helps the woods calm down after a shot.

How can that be pellets out of a springer are slower then the the speed of sound they are not braking the sound barrier like a 22LR. Most of the sound is coming from the spring next to your. EAR

I have a 0dB moderator on my Red Wolf .22 because I shoot in the city legally, I don’t want to stand out. Next match I plan on shooting without the moderator.

Nay on a springer, unless you need more leverage to break open the barrel.
On a PCP it can help a lot to quiet the "noise'.

It may help accuracy and it will help with noise even on a springer. The accuracy improvement is highly dependent on the barrel harmonics. If bad harmonics are creating issues then you are probably better off with a barrel weight or an air-stripper since they can be fine tuned.

I have a Weihrauch moderator for my .22 HW95. I have shot it back to back with and without the moderator and my experience is it makes a significant difference in downrange noise. The mechanical noise is still there but the neighbors can't hear that. YMMV

I've never felt that a springer needed a moderator. Most of the noise that they produce seems to come from the action itself. PCP's are another animal however and for those I feel some sort of can or shroud is a must.
