Do break barrel rifles have steel inner barrels

Newb question. I end up buying three Hatsan break barrel edge rifles (.177 .22 & .25). I've searched all over the web but I can't find the answer to this question.

Do these break barrel air rifles have steel inner barrels like a traditional firearm? Also are they rifled if so? Or do the pellets pass through plastic tube? Specifically the Hatsan edge.

I ask because I hear a lot about cleaning these rifles and I see these kids that have brass wire bore brushes. Figure if it's fine on steel barrel but plastic no.

That is pretty awesome. Thanks!

Upon doing more research I found they are made of soft steel and some times brass.

In my case with the Hatsan most certainly rifled steel as said.

I was also able to find schematics for the edge. I thought that was pretty cool too.

Any thoughts for diy rod cleaner? I was thinking weed trimmer line and gun patches. I know I need a rubber safe product as a cleaner. The exterior I will use hoppes oil.

I think I'm going to buy the patch worm. Just trying to figure out if they are actually still shipping given the corvid thing.

Sucks I have to buy a separate thing for the .177. I have the 3 calibers.

Far as cleaning the barrel I saw this stuff in a green can. Name escapes me. Safe for everything. It's popular. The outside blue barrel I will use hoppes. And that leaves the hinges maybe more that green stuff or non detergent oil.

I should have went with the gas piston. I don't even want to think about what type of lubricants used in the coil spring. The Price is Right on them though I couldn't refuse.

Got the word back from Hatsan USA.

They recommend silicone oil (no surprise) or mineral oil for everything but the spring and piston.

Every 500 shots requires a pea size amount of moly grease on the spring and piston.

Seeing how mineral oil is cheap and recommend (will not void warranty) I will go that route for now. 1 year later might be different.

Looked at 1001 different kits by umarex hoppes etc for cleaning. Many options nylon bore Bristol mops etc. Now on my break barrel I don't really need a product like the patch worm as I have a clear line of sight down the barrel. I may however still consider it.

For me all 3 calibers would be $25 a little pricey considering the options now thats shipped. Rod kits sell for about $14 and use standard patches. The brand name kits which include a wire type puller cost about $20.

More of a concern is using too much patch and bunching it up in that small diameter soft steel tube.

I wish I knew more about the actual barrel. Is there a small tube inside the larger barrel? How tight is that to the bore of the larger steel barrel housing.

I’m not specifically familiar with the Hatsans, but 99.9% of quality airgun barrels are made of solid steel. There are no liners or nested tubes. And “soft” is a relative term...it’s still STEEL, harder and stronger than any aluminum or brass or bronze or plastic, you certainly aren’t going to harm it with a piece of bunched-up fabric.

Here’s a great site for general airgun info.

My general advice would be to just relax, keep learning, and enjoy the guns! There is more than one way to deal with most maintenance issues, and a well-made gun isn’t going to dissolve or explode if some little something isn’t perfect.

Ballistol yes for barrel cleaning and exterior wipe-down, Hoppe’s NO on a spring-piston gun BTW.
