DIY Boresnake

Hi,

I had not cleaned the barrel of my Wildcat for once. I had just been shooting cottons.
Since I moved to 50m for real, I wanted to squeeze the group and before trying to modify/gage pellets, I supposed I could try cleaning the barrel more througly.

So I made a boresnake out of an old sock and a window shade rope. I have earlier done one for my .177 and its barrel is mirror-clean.
-Contrary to boresnakes, no brass/metal wires embedded in the snake.
-The cost is minimal or free, if you have wood glue already and any piece of small rope that is longer than the barrel.

Needed:
-Sock,
-Wood glue
-Small diameter rope that does not tangle easily (window shades pulling rope or similar is a good choice)
-a pellet is recommended to be attached to the end of the rope.
-a pellet tin to store it in

1. Find a lonely sock, best to have one with a rather slim cloth
2. End its misery, cut the head and the bottom. You can give it the last bath first.
3. Cut the suck into two halves along its longer axis, taking long strip of the best part from ankle to to toes
4. Roll it and check it is somewhat the right size for your caliber.
5. Unroll the sock
5. Unbraid the rope from the other end (1" or a bit more) and glue it to the inner of the sock, apply lots of glue as the sock sucks it.
6. Roll the sock tightly around the rope
7. Let it dry.
8. Start testing it and cut the cloth to correct width.
9. Use glue on the rope to make it even more robust.
10. Carve a hole in to a bullet-like pellet that is smaller than the barrel and pinch the other end of the rope there.
