Discovery Optics

Guys .... I would like to buy 2 Discovery lenses from Aliexpress .... A HD 5-25X50 SFP and a VTT 6-24X50 FFP .... here in Italy they are not very well known .... I tried to look for a bit in AirgunNation, but with my bad english, I didn't understand much. Some users can give me some information on how the discovery optics are and in particular these 2 models.

Thank you

So Yo for use 50- 200m max can it be ok? I saw the reticle on Aliexpress, in terms of "form" it is very tactical and with the numbers on the various staffs ... it would seem great for holding off firing. I don't use the lighting function ... never shot in dim light, in low light or at night.

I also like the VTT ... in the foreground focal plane, what do you think of this lens?

Thanks for the first reply.

Here is my Discovery HD 4-24x50 (34mm tube) FFP on my .223. I find the HD glass very clear, it tracks very well and it is very bright. For precision shooting 100-250m, I prefer nothing less than the HD glass. You will notice when you go from HD glass to one that is lower quality. It will feel like someone smeared grease on your lens and will not want to use that scope especially at longer ranges. For the price, it is hard to beat Discovery scopes.

I do not get that "greasy lens" effect when I switch from my Sightron SIII to my Discovery HD scope.

Warranty for an AliExpress bought scope — in Italy — that is going to be close to impossible. 😟

200 meters (220y)? Have you thought of a 5-30x scope? 🤔 Discovery has them. See attached Scope Specs List below.

I have the HD 5-25×50 I had to replace it, the side focus and illumination wheels were way to tight I like it better than the Atlon 8-32. Good luck finding a warranty center!

Of course it's tight that's from the same Chinese factory as the Alpha6 and JSAR. The SFP Alpha6 has clearer and brighter glass out of all of the CHINA SCOPES mentioned on this thread.

I have to say Aliexpress is wising up and jacking up prices on some scopes namely Discovery to price them the same as buying domestically.

Cheaper to buy from Airgun Archery in Canada and ship to USA.

The good cheapie scopes must now be cherry picked so you don't get rubbish Chinese CRAP.

Too bad you guys don't have the Aim Sports Alpha6 label there. You could pay less than half the price of the Discovery and get a lifetime warranty for even better glass.

The Discovery 5-30x isn't clear all the way to 30x you need to go with the Vector Optics spinoff the specific ones that use real German Scott glass instead (only certain ones) also made in the same China factory.

It must also be borne in mind, however, that with figures of up to € 300, a lifetime guarantee cannot be claimed. For my use, i.e. hold off and turn the drift and elevation turrets a little, the optic is not affected by mechanical stress and wear, so if the lenses are decent and the reticle is neither too fine nor too much big, the Discovery, at least the HD series, could do for me.

However, I am oriented towards the purchase of the 5-25X50, the right focal length for my use.

Thanks guys for the info.

I've never tried an FFP lens, so reading the specs, the VTT series appeals to me a lot. I know that to have a good FFP you have to spend a lot of € \ $, but to try, I think that 200 € can also be spent.

I have 3 discovery scopes, the vt-3 4-16x44 SF-FFP, the HD 5-25x50 SFIR FFP, and the VT-T 4.5-18x44. All is nice and clear, but in my opinion the VT-T has to many small lines between the milldots, making it difficult to aim on small dots on paper. So that is the only one of those 3 I do not like, just because of to many marks on the reticle. I shoot allot on 25m, and the reticle on the HD make it easy to place over a single bullet hole to use as target as it has a center dot. So my favorite of the 3 I own must be the HD, and would not buy the VT-T 4.5-18x44 again.

@ Tor47, thank you for your opinion and for confirming the good quality of the HD series. Today, taken from a purchase rush, I bought, through Aliexpress, the two optics I asked you for information about.

On the HD I have a lot of hopes .... on the VTT a little less, but I wanted to trust this brand and take away the whim of an FPP.

As soon as I have them in my hands I will tell you how I am.

They are all nice and clear. But the vt-t has 1/10 mill lines, which is to much, as as it hides the target hole on paper. The HD has "perfect" reticle with 1/5 mill lines, and the center dot have just enough space around it, so it never hides anything.

tor47,
Very interesting! Where did you find the data on how wide the reticle lines are, 1/5 and 1/10? Discovery webpage? Seller's website?

I'd love to include that kind of information in my Scope Specs Tables!

Matthias

Look here https://discoveryoptics.co.uk/reticles/

Well I was wrong about the HD, it use 1/4 mill spacings not 1/5, but you get my point:) It is called DLTW reticle. I like it much. Noticed the HD 34mm tube use a different one. Have never tried that one, but it looks pretty clean, with not to many mill lines.

The VT-T use the DLT MIL, and if you click on it, you can see how narrowed that spacing gets. Believe also the first line then get closer to the center dot, with litle space around it. If you try to aim at a bullet hole at 25m, all the small mill markings will make it very hard to see.
