Hi All: In the last several months I have purchased a Crosman Vantage NP .22 and a Gamo Magnum .22, which I have only put approximately 50 pellets through, today I decided to run a few dry cleaning patches through each gun. WOW ! the first few were black, then I fired each weapon a few times and the ran a few more patches through them again, the patches were black again .. .. .. Do the manufactures oil up these guns on the heavy side during assembly ?

Yes on a lathe a lot of oil or soap (we called it that and sometimes used actual soap) is used to lubricate. Best to clean initially. As for maintenance over time, each person has a different opinion. Mine is that subsonic speed does not cause atomization of lead usually, or not as much, so maybe a 1 year clean (if accuracy goes down).
