DuelMagMike educated me that Diopers are used in 10 meter matches. I doubt I’ll ever see a competition, but I really like the looks they offer.
I have a Diana Mauser K98 I use for greeting squirrels, 10-15 yd. range with steel sights. A tack driver and deadly accurate out of box. Don’t want a scope on this one, but I think a Dioper would look Hollywood.

My question; Will the Diopter sight offer the same or better aiming for squirrels?

The thing about diopter sights is that they provide a very small sight picture. They are designed for bullseye shooting at a known and fixed distance. Definitely will make seeing the squirrels very difficult. A rear peep like Williams are more versatile and you can change the size for your needs. As far as Hollywood, well if that is what your are after then go for the match diopter. I tied both and am sold on the Williams.

Some diopters have larger rear portion iris' and are quite useable for hunting, using a post front insert rather than a circle type will increase field of view even more I find. Check eBay and see if there is one in your price range and give it a try then you'll know for sure. I have used my FWB and Anschutz match rifles for short range hunting very effectively. P.S. the very cheap diopters do not have the precision of the FWB, Walther, Anschutz versions.
