Six shooters ignored the weather forecast and were blessed with dry shooting conditions for most of the match. Temps were low 70s at the start falling to high 60s. Wind was essentially absent. The main challenge was poor lighting due to cloudy conditions and a full tree canopy which made small kill zones on black targets very hard to see. We had no target malfunctions and the course was fun to shoot.
The average course difficulty was 29.35, with four 3/8” and four ½” kill zones, and nine targets at > 40 yards.
Thom Davies took the match high score of 60/72 cleaning 8 lanes and dropping only 2 points on the free position lanes in the Hunter Division. Scott Broom was only a single point behind but cleared ‘only’ 4 lanes; he made up for this by scoring 5 on the offhand lane. Roel and Trevor were close behind. Mark Mayer was the high shooter in Open Division with 53 points. Tobias Morris continues to show rapid improvement and cleared 4 lanes, a new personal best.
There has been some discussion recently about the liberal use of 3/8” targets by DIFTA match directors and whether these are ‘too hard’ even though they are sanctioned by AAFTA. It turns out that the shooters at today’s match scored really well on these targets, as shown in the analysis below.
As always, many thanks to those who travel long distances to compete and keep our sport alive and to everyone who stayed behind to bring up the targets in the rain.
Mark Mayer acted as match Director. The next match at DIFTA will be held on Saturday July 5th.
