Different direction...

While the crowds these days seem to be going for power plenum guns with high power and slug shooting guns, I find myself headed in the opposite direction. Guns that are more compact and lower powered. I'm down to only .22s only with my highest power one being 30fpe, a Gen1 Mrod I'm setting up in the 20fpe range with the Hades, and then just got a Benjamin 392s for using on the farm for rats and birds that I plan on using in the 3-4 pump range putting out 6-8fpe. I'm enjoying this lower powered shooting

When I was growing up my dad and I loved to go fishing together. We would get up early and fish all day in our old aluminum boat with the world renowned Evinrude 9.9. We fished for everything and did well. I went to college and different things started to distract me. Dad got rid of the Jon boat and bought a Bass boat to keep me coming back. It was fancy and awesome, but fishing with dad was never the same. We spent more time motoring and searching than fishing. We both missed the joy of just fishing together.

Perhaps you started to go a different direction and are now getting back to the joy of the sport from your perspective.

I too started “chasing” something with the slugs becoming available. I too have decided to dial it back. I shoot only pellets as they are better suited to my needs and wants with airguns.

Enjoy your shooting.

+1 Dairyboy on the 30 fpe level. My 2 favorite guns are both in that range. The .20 Rapid like the jsb heavys 15.9 @ 900 fps and the cricket compact .22 love jsb 18.1 @ 880.. Both excellent pesters @ 100+ yds at that power. Rarely do I shoot my condor ss .25.

100% agree. 90% of my shooting is under 30fpe. Lots to enjoy in that power range.

I could probably be quite satisfied with my .177/19.5fpe field target gun and my .20/19.5-35fpe Veteran as a hunter/pester.

Although i do love a really accurate low powered springer too, for when I want to just shoot and not worry about air. That area of interest is taken up by a FWB300 (with diopter sights), an FWB300s (scoped), and a 10fpe HW50s.

Were it not for the recent advent of the high powered field target game within a few hrs drive from me, I wouldn't be chasing the power game with the Veteran Long like I am now. All said and done, my shooting with that HP long will still probably account for less than 10% of all my shooting.

When I first got my Impact I Warched too many YouTube videos and all about power, shot JSB Kings at 920FPS but realized quickly that’s rather dangerous. Watched all of the edgunleshiy videos and I then was all about .25 hades at 600FPS and boy are they deadly!!! Sadly they are so effective I haven’t seen a squirrel in 4 months!!!

fast forward 3 months I bought a crosman 1720t from a member and absolutely love how quiet and accurate it is. Now my impact is .22 for smaller slugs. I now have 2x .177 guns and 2x .22 guns and 2x .25 guns......I practically only shoot the lower power .177 guns in the yard now. By low power I mean 620 FPS or 6FPE and it’s deadly on sparrows, my other .177 is set for around 12 FPE and ready for when squirrels decide to show up.

then bought a ton of .177 pellets and been shooting a lot and enjoying shooting much more than before....partly because it’s 1/6 of the cost!

Are they still made in Germany? What's the difference between the HW30 and HW30S? This model on AoA with the checkered grips is peaking my interest.

I shoot a variety of airguns that range from 3 to 50 fpe for plinking, pesting, hunting, 10 meter target and long range target work. Never saw a reason to restrict myself to one disipline or power. Enjoy them all!

My favorite of favorites is my .22 HW 100 (28 fpe) as it could cover 99% of the shooting I do. I have a couple of nice springers so I don't "need" another one but an HW 30 is definitely the next rifle I plan to get.

A lot of places in the world have strict laws limiting the power of airguns, I am glad that we have the choice.

Well said. One persons first love is of no consequence to many others. Good to have choices. And I shoot many air guns from a P17 to a high output valved Condor. Different strokes.

I think the most versatile air gun in the stable HAS TOO BE .... the Daystate Air Wolf with a Heliboard. This a custom re-barreled to .20 caliber

On power level 1 it shoots @ 7 fpe using lighter pellets ( H&N FTT @ 11 grain ) and gradually ramps up threw 12 power levels topping off at @ 40 fpe with heavier pellets. ( JSB heavies @16 grain )

500 cc air tank & 230 bar fill , ambidextrous stock, surprisingly light weight, stupid quiet and ACCURATE !!

It absolutely is for modest power hunting / pesting a ONE GUN TOO DO IT ALL

For farm land pesting where differing power levels are a 10 second change to make .... Priceless !!

JMO tho ...
