Differences

Did you use your GoPro to film your Mini?
Or was the GoPro on board the Mini shooting FPV footage?
Just curious.
I still fly 250-450+ sized quads and use 808/Mobius/SJCams..
[*flips off the FAA*] 🤣

Anyways, I won't get into anything other than One Main Difference.
In GoPro's infinite wisdom, they somehow decided that on the Hero 8,
they'd implement a fixed/permanent lens.. Huh?.. Yup!
[we shouldn't care how strong they claim it is]
All of the previous models had interchangeable / replaceable lenses.
BIG Fail IMO. The only way I'd ever own one is if I received it for free.

Here is the footage we use the drone and the 7 and edit the footage from both. We also have a Sony A6500 with Sigma 16 mm but only use it periodically as the environment we are in is extreme most days. The GoPro 8 lens is definitely one of the problems I see with what we do. Just might buy another 7 for fixed static tripod shot of work area. Needless to say we have fun LOL

"Digger" - Your name totally makes sense now! 😃🤘

Right on man, and Great video! I've gotta' agree.. you guys look like you have a lot of fun!
That's the only way to do things! Nice footage from the Mini, I'm getting impressed by those..
For a quad w/ such a small footprint, they really seem to stabilize nicely! No j-e-l-l-o.

A6500 - Great camera!
I've been shooting with Sony since they were Minolta! Love em'.
I use an A99ii, and a few A77iis. And an A77. Then too many lenses to even remember.
The A6500 and now the A6400 models look like really nice setups for sure,
and I was super tempted to get one. Only issue.. They're E mount and my gear is all A mount.

Sorry.. Camera addict.. lol Back to the subject at hand!

I think for what you're using your cams for - and where...
Going with another 7 would be a much better idea than to risk going with the 8.

If/when I grab a GoPro, it'll be the ol' lucky 7 also. Great features, and none of that nonsense.

Sam appreciate your thoughts , the Sony a 7 r 3 we have never goes out on the ground but man it takes 42 mega pixel pics like nobody’s biz. The GoPro 7 is slowly starting to pop up on Craigslist so we probably pick up a couple more of those and strap one to our machines and tripod static. We love cameras and saw early on the benefit in marketing to prospects exactly what we do and it sells jobs. As far as stable we have had the mini in 10mph winds with no issues and the footage is auto corrected for color and exposure in final cut but honestly it is good straight from the mini. We try not to enhance the vids so clients see the real deal.
