You ordered the Impact for a reason, don’t switch now, you’ll regret it. gazillions have been sold for a reason. Some seem to think it’s a fragile air gun but that’s not the case at all. I and many others use them all the time with no issues. Mine rides beside me in the truck, in the back of the Cherokee, through the brush, prone in the dirt, from a bench, etc and is just fine. Once you find the projectile you like, dial it in, it’s as good to go as any other air gun and better than most. Consider this, with an Impact... You get a magazine that holds 28 shots, 75+ shots per fill with big power, adjustability, modularity, more info on the web about the Impact than any other gun, phenomenal accuracy, it can be fired very fast, upgrades, caliber swaps, barrel swaps, accessories, and again, accuracy. For me, nothing available offers what the Impact can but everybody has their own preferences. I think for you, determine what aspects of a gun are most important...Weight, shot count, magazine capacity, short range accuracy, long range accuracy, the report, length, and then make your decision. Seems to be a difference in what one persons view of "eliminated" from consideration and what anothers persons view of works fine for the use is. I've found that usually when someone presents an opinion as fact then that view should be taken with a grain of salt.

I love the Leshiy 2! I've never had an Impact, but I have an SK-19, R5M, Brocock Bantam, Original Leshiy... I can't imagine regretting it. Well worth the wait. It's not nearly as fussy as cmatera has been led to believe - those are all the worst of the first-case units and user learning. They shoot well, they're a complete blast, way better ergonomics than the SK-19, and easier to load. I think it's an ideal hunter, plinker, and sporter. It only falls short of being a benchrest gun.

I am a 18 year owner of the first Airforce Talon SS in .22. My life got busy and I got away from hunting with the airgun for the last 10-12 years. I have been back to shooting the Airforce and I like the brand, but don't like the single shot aspect anymore. Now I am at the point where I have more time to get back in to the hobby and looking for a hunting/target gun that is lighter and maneuverable (somewhat of a truck gun hybrid - to paint a picture). I decided to treat myself with a new airgun. I am looking to go higher end and a good optic and mount.

I had decided on purchasing an FX MK2 .25 from Utah Airguns. I put my order in beginning of March. I am having some work done before it's sent to me, slug power kit, Huma high flow transfer port, etc. I was concerned about the weight of the airgun, but I am keeping pretty much everything stock and not adding weight other than scope and mount. I am probably looking at the cost being somewhere in the $2500 range.

Now I am feeling some buyers remorse. Not because I don't have the money to spend, but because maybe I didn't choose the fight airgun for me. I really like the EDgun Leshiy 2, but who knows when that will ever show up at my door and I would need to cancel the Impact order and put the deposit down now if I ever hope to get it this year. I like the FX Wildcat MK2 sniper, but again I would have to start over on the waiting period. I was really hoping to have the gun by beginning of June for camping with my son. I also like the Jefferson State Raptor Mini, but again stopped preorders and the waiting game. 

what do you guys think I should do? Is the Impact MK2 .25 going to fit the bill or should I cancel tomorrow and order the Leshiy and just wait it out, or do you have other ideas?

I honestly don’t mind getting a levered gun. Semi auto is not the deal breaker for me. I have only experienced an Airforce single shot so it’s all gravy. I want a higher end hunting gun that isn’t 8 plus pounds that can also shoot better than me at 50 yards in my backyard, when I am board and just want to sling some led. I am not very experienced with tuning. I want to learn of course, but I am concerned that the FX Impact might be too much of a project gun and not enough “shoot critters hiking with my son” gun. I really do appreciate all the opinions. I am looking at the opinions on the internet to get a better ideal.

Call Kelly at Krazy cool airguns and talk to him about the huben k1. It would fit your bill perfectly and semi auto is really nice for a hunting gun. Short light and quiet you will love it. I bought mine a month ago and it's a blast. Tell Kelly how you want it set up and your ready to go no tinkering. The nice thing is if you want to tinker it's super easy to tune. It has loads of power and a 19 shot non removalable mag which I find a benefit. For hunting load the mag and you probably will not have to load it again before you get home. Great gun and great customer service from Kelly. I bought the 22 and might add a 25 some day down the line. Goodluck with whatever rifle you whined up with.

The LCS is not what I would consider a truck gun and those who have done a ton of varmint hunting know that having a semi auto is not necessary. Taipan, KaliberGun, Edgun, American Air Arms all have good quality guns with size and weight to make a good durable truck gun. For me as far as having something that's going to get rattled around a bunch needs to be build right. The last thing I want is to have to make adjustments because something came loose or the floppy barrel moved and changed my poi. I want something I can pick up and shoot with consistent accuracy. Only sharing my own experience with guns I'm familiar with using out of a vehicle in rough terrain.

What gun do you run as your varmint gun?

For me a truck gun has a specific purpose and that is to be able to travel with me on some of the large permissions that take most all day to hunt. These are guns that don't sit in a case and are usually floating around in the cab of my Jeep as I travel the trails throughout these large properties stopping frequently. My criteria is something accurate with a strong stiff barrel system to prevent POI shifts, this is important as I have no time to tinker and adjust things. Here are a few guns I recommend along with the reasons why:

Brocock Bantam Sniper .22

Good looking semi bullpup with very simple design, newer XR models are a step up IMO

These are all guns I use heavily on a weekly basis and have treated me well with NO PROBLEMS!! Plenty of great guns out on the market, some better than others. My best advice is to do some homework. The Huben in .22 shoots the NSA slugs great if you were ever looking to do so, the .25 doesn't but shoots JSB pellets really well. These guns are not for everyone and a little finicky but for the right person, someone who like to tune and tinker they are great. Probably not the best for a primary gun or someone just getting into Airguns. Certain guns with FLOPPY barrels shoot great, very ergonomic and accurate but not the kind of build quality I would ever trust again. What shoots great today is totally out of whack tomorrow and requires simply to much maintenance and care for me to want to spend time with. My advice is to keep things simple and save a little more for some good quality glass to go along with whatever you pick.

Very well laid out and presented. Certainly you have tried to make the best decision on which guns to get for your use and this writeup should be helpful to many. But as with most things, your view of "truck gun" may not match that of others. Still, props to you and +1.

My comment was more light hearted quip, alluding to EDs video, where he drives over a R5M in his "truck" picks it up, puts the scope back on, and shoots a group.

Where I US based*, I would have a K1, however, and I know you touch on this already, and at the risk of sounding preachy, EVEN MORE care than normal would need to be taken with a 7yo is around the Huben, the K1s semiauto/always cocked firing system is so different to your Talon.

Sorry for the long-winded reply…. I want to thank everyone for all their help. This post was a good experience, and I got a lot of information that I wasn't even considering. Special thinks to Crossman999 for the amazing post and he really did help form my decision for my final choice. I want to thank the guys for the contacts to Charlie Frear at Georgia Airguns and Kelly at Krazycool Airguns. I spoke to both those guys and they took lots of time educating me and helping me. For example, Charlie spent 40 minutes with me, amazing customer service. I also spike with Brian at Edgun West about the Leshiy and the lead times. 



So where did I end up going with all this great information? I cancelled the FX Impact MK2 order from Utah Airguns. I want to make sure everyone knows, it has nothing to do with the company, they have always been really great, it was the airgun itself. The FX just wasn’t right for me, and almost everyone on this post agreed. 



I ended up ordering a KalibrGun Cricket 2 in 25 CAL with skeleton stock from Charlie as my everyday shooter. I have to wait a bit (guaranteed in hand June 1), but the mixture of customer service, price and tuned product, I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity and jumped on it. Plus, he’s a fellow career firefighter (retired), so I had a bond with him almost immediately.



Why I didn’t go with these options…



1. Edgun Leshiy 2 in 30 CAL Python Edition – California dealer, had to add 8% on top of $2800 for tax and the lead time was really vague. Wasn’t interested in ordering internationally. I do like this airgun and will most likely buy one eventually. Wondering if Edgun West is the only US dealer?



2. Huben K1 in 25 CAL – Kelly from Krazycool Airguns was really great. I had a full understanding of the pros and cons. After speaking with him and looking at the design of the gun and the need for 5000 PSI fill pressure I was not going to buy the gun. I just wasn’t willing to get the condenser for $900 to operate the gun as it was meant to operate. 



3. LCS in 25 CAL – not the gun for me after doing the research. Full auto is not something I care to have anyway.



4. The AAA Evol – I liked the gun and like the company. I liked that I could get it through Arizona Airguns with a first responder discount and no tax. The lead times with AAG was also vague. After speaking with Charlie, I found I am able to get what I want in a lever action for the most part for $1000 cheaper, so I went that direction. Saved the money for good glass as Crosman999 said.



5. The Brocock options – I have always liked these guns and did plan to get one, but I like Jefferson State Raptor more and I am partial to the Oregon company because I was raised there, so I am going that direction.



6. Taipan – didn’t like the rear lever.

Since you mentioned/decided to go with the Cricket/Charlie, thought I quickly share what came in the mail today... its a .22 Cricket Long from Charlie. No regrets. Initially worried about the barrel not being stiff etc... its pretty very solid; just like a BSA barrel. He'd have all my business if he sold other brands also, lol. (Not to say that Kelly/kraz is not as good... if he's reading this lol. All good, humble folks doing what they do best.)

Lastly per test/target sheet he provided shows outstanding (5-shot) results at 40yds/ 8-14mph winds... all at supposedly only 105bar set reg. Will def need to check this all out for myself this weekend; pretty impressed by the numbers and overall results at just 105bar. Anyway, good luck and hope you enjoy your Cricket.

For that budget I would get a Semiauto such as the LCS SK19 or Hubens K1 or even the Leshiy2 whichever is in stock and ready to ship as of yesterday. Once you go SEMIAUTO for hunting it's pretty hard to go back to having to cock a magazine fed side lever or bolt action gun in between shots.

So I’m a little curious.Do you have stock in that semi auto air rifle?I noticed every comment you make is to buy that rifle.

Charlie and I did discuss the Uragan in 25 Cal. He said it’s a great gun and would sell me one in a heart beat and I would love it. We compared the Cricket 2 and the Uragan and there were more pros for the Cricket for my overall needs. The Cricket has higher FPE and shot count. It was also lighter to carry. The Uragan had the bottle which I liked, but not enough pros to pick it over the Cricket. 


We discussed getting the Uragan in 30 CAL later this year if I don’t end up going with the Leshiy 2 or Jefferson State Raptor.

That’s pretty impressive. Let us know how your personal testing compares. I know my POI will be off from Georgia to California Desert.
