I really like the look and feel of this gun. I really wanted it in .22 but snoozed on what appeared to be the last 1 of .22 in stock at Pyramid Air. After regretting it for a few weeks, I went back to PA's website hoping there might be another .22 available, and noticed that now there was only 1 .177 left in stock, so thought "now or never" lol, so placed the order.
I realize this is an older model, but again, loved the two-tone looks and the fact that it had what appeared to be a functional moderator on it as I generally only shoot in the back yard, so must be "backyard friendly".
Once it arrived, I did a quick 'lookover" and decided to see what the moderator was like. It was a decent surprise when I opened it up, and it had internals similar to most muffler type mods. I was afraid that it might have been one of those fake ones they put on some break barrels.
Curiosity got the best of me, so I took the gun outside and loaded a 7.9g pellet in it to see how quiet this gun was. NOPE. It "cracked" so loud I jumped, then I embarrassingly looked around to see if any neighbors came out to see who died... Holy shirt, this thing is LOUD. Louder than any of my .22 rimfires. Is this a known loud break barrel? I thought for sure the moderator would have made it a lot quieter. Maybe it broke the sound barrier? I didn't have the chrono out for that one test shot, and now I'm afraid to even shoot it again in the yard. I'd hate to get rid of this break barrel already, but if it's not backyard friendly, it's gonna have to go.
I did notice the claimed .177 fps is 1050 vs. a much lower .22 version.
Does anyone else have the .177 version of this gun that can confirm how loud this is, and can it be quieted down or detuned somehow? I realize heavier pellets may help a bit.
