Diana 34 won’t cock with preload washers

Hello. I have a Diana 34 that won’t cock when the preload washers are installed. What’s going on? Any help would be appreciated. The white piece is the preload washer. The reason for me installing the preload washer is that the rifle is very underpowered. I’m getting 8.5 ft/lbs with a 13 ft/lb spring.


I shortened the spring guide the same length as the preload washer, but that didn’t work. I should mention there is also a top hat installed, and the rifle cocks perfectly with it installed. So that’s out of the question. Nothing is wrong with the piston seal. It’s an OEM Diana piston seal and it’s in pretty good shape.

Sounds like it's coil bound, not enough room in the piston for the spring and spacers so remove them. Then check for proper seal fit (not too tight, not too loose) also check breech seal or get another spring if power is too low...

"Spring stacking" or "coil bound" means that the spring is fully compressed and the coils on the spring are touching each other. The spring can not be compressed further beyond that point.

I think as the others who have replied do. Your spring can not compress far enough to accommodate both the preload washer and top hat.

Seal in "Pretty good shape" ..... needs to be in excellent shape, no nicks, no burning edges and a obvious bit of drag being in good contact with compression chamber wall.

Breech seal as well ... no damage and a tissue test done making sure it does not leak.

Spring bind ... YUP coil bind from TOO MANY preload washers.

No. I got it to shoot 12 ft/lbs now. But, yes Motörhead…the piston seal does have like 2 knicks (chips) near the edge. Anyone know where I can get a quality piston seal?

Vorteck, Macarri or factory seal.
