"Dial of Death" w/ the "Cobra Mod" (graphic)...

Got to upgrade .22 Taipan Mutant Shorty w/ the "Cobra Mod" from Motorhead. Lil pup is more quiet now w/o any moderator due to the custom peek poppet, & copper chamber tube w/ spring Motorhead created.

Big Thanks to Motorhead & all other tuners who created the Cobra Mod.

Shooting App: Strelok Pro (coulda, but didn't use her…

Front bubble level: Long Range Arms (coulda, but didn't use her)…

Rear bubble level: Nightforce…

Scope rings: 30mm Nightforce…

Rangefinder: Nikon Aculon 6×20 laser rangefinder…

Scope cam/phone: Sideshot scope cam adaptor w/ the Galaxy S7 cell phone camera…Editing was completed on the same cell phone…

Shooting positions: Sitting in the car & or sitting on the ground Indian style deep inside my front porch/garage shooting w/ the small Atlas bipod…

Preparation: Saw these furballs chill'n @ the 55, 62, & 75 yard trees. Grabbed the "Cobra Mod" .22 Shorty to test out.

Shooting Procedures: Waited for the furballs to lay comfy while all 3 were inquiring/watching me. All saw me as I was watching them...

Lasered all furballs w/ the rangefinder...

Pressed the "start" button on the cell phone camera to start the video...

Dialed the elevation turret to desired yardage…

Zoomed in on the cell phone… Adjusted/corrected to the best clear view w/ the side shot camera adapter & glanced @ the bubble level (adjusted cant on bipod if needed)…

Cocked the "Cobra Mod" .22 Shorty…

Aimed the crosshairs straight on or over to the left by 1/2, or 3/4 milquads (Doped for wind)…

Pulled the trigger...

Dialed the elevation turret back to "zero"…

55 yard furball was a "hole in 1"...pellet flew straight & true to impact. Waited an hour for her to pop out again, she never ever did...no retrieval, she was 20 yards up the tree...

62 yard furball head shot...held 1/2 mil quad to the left for wind & the lubed JSB 15.89g pellet punctured through her head & lodged itself inside her skull… Pellet impacted where I aimed, she bleed out onto the tree, fell asleep, & did the "Death Slide"...

So the cobra mod = quieter and probably more shots?

Matt,

I've always though my .22 shorty was a tad bit loud for shooting in my garage. Shooting outside wide open w/ Mother Nature is different & she is quiet, well I consider her quiet enough. That's why she's sported a DonnyFL or the Huggett on her indoors. After the "Cobra Mod" install, I basically can shoot her anywhere I wish, no more extra moderators for her.

Shot count wise, I haven't completed a full string w/ her yet. I know I do get about ~40 shot from her b4 the "Cobra Mod." (Im not sure if I ever will complete a full shot string, I apologize, thats not on my priority list) I can see a increase in shoot count due to more stable air flow w/ the "Cobra Mod." I just wanted to reassemble her, & get her back up to speed w/ consistent velocity to shoot.

Maybe Motorhead can share his intellect about your shot count question...

Quieter simply because the poppet is closed so much quicker the overall valve dwell has be reduced leaving less of a sound signature to the shot. Using less air every shot equates to getting more shots from from every air fill.

* This only remains true so long as gun with the cobra mods is tuned correctly and running at an efficient power setting. Those who are really leaning on the power looking for maximum output need not apply.
