Design Flaw in FX Wildcat MK3 and Maverick

It is normal. The only way to fix it is make the wheel out of super titanium metal that won't wear out over use. The small metal balls will run against the wheel each time you turn it. It dowsnt affect the gun at all because the ball will fall in place and click in place.

It’s not just the detent area; that’s just the anodizing. Look at where the ramped area is that changes the hammer spring preload. Those little circles are where the set screw bangs into the wheel. Any change in surface height is a change in hammer spring preload, so it is affected over time.

There is a difference and I assume an improvement. My 1st Wildcat MKIII was equipped with the parts on the left. My 2nd WC is equipped with those on the right. The wheels and adjusters have obvious differences.

Replace the balls to Teflon or ceramic.
My archery sight (Shibuya - made in Japan) using those or you can browse the RC hobbyists shelfs. Considerably quiter then steel balls.
But you need to consider one part will wear faster and you need to chose sides.

This is the solution. Widen the contact area so the force is distributed over a wider area. I’ll contact FX and see if I can get the updated parts. This should be covered under warranty.

I emailed FX and they got back to me almost immediately. The updated parts will be sent to me.

That's the way it should be done. There is an issue and you correct it, no cost to the consumer.

You mean to tell me that FX sent out guns with an aluminum part designed to slide across the top of a socket head set screw? Seriously? On a $2000 gun? Am I seeing it wrong as to how that works?

Well, it doesn’t really slide unless if you were to try and turn the power wheel with the gun cocked, which you’re explicitly told not to do. Although, in lessmundane’s case, that’s what happened. The damage is caused by the screw ramming into the wheel in the same spot over and over.

I found that the slopped out wheel also let the wheel turn when I slid the rifle in and out of it’s gun case. Always had to check to see if the wheel was at #7 before hunting. Solved it with a shim between the outer and inner wheel. I am very interested in getting a new setup.
