Delta Wolf - 1.5 years later...

I got a new to me .30 caliber Delta Wolf a few weeks ago. And let me tell you, OMG is it accurate!!! It LOVES the JSB 50.15 grain pellets at 880 FPS, and STACKs them at 100 yards. No BS, I was shooting on a steel plate at 100 yards Saturday and it just kept putting each pellet on top of the mark from the previous pellet. It was doing this so consistently that I kinda got bored and moved to 146 yards shooting KYL swingers!

As you may know, I've had a .25 DW for about 1 1/2 years now, and although it was accurate, it never was any better than either my .22 Red Wolf HP or my .30 FX Bobcat Mk2. Truth be told, I beat the crap out of that .25 DW, hunting, benchrest, extreme field target, and mostly speed practice. So much so that I broke both brass bushings for the cocking lever and had them replaced with stainless steel. I shot it at RMAC 2021 Speed and made the finals, but the gun broke at the 2022 RMAC Speed Challenge (first lane) - the cocking arm microswitch failed. Anyway, AoA allowed me to trade my .25 for a used .30 caliber updated version. Thanks Airguns of Arizona!!~!

Well, this .30 DW is better and more accurate than either gun. This is the first gun I've shot since I got my (EBR 2019 (S) winning) .30 Bobcat in 2017 that is measurably more accurate. The shot cycle is much smoother than the old(er) .25 DW or the Red Wolf HP or Bobcat Mk2. I can keep the crosshairs on the aim point during the shot cycle with little to no movement... And the gun makes the 86 FPE I shoot the 50.15 JSB pellets at with only 132 bar reg. pressure. Plus it gets over 50 shots per fill at that power level.

I'm so happy with this updated Delta Wolf, that I'll be shooting it at EBR to walk the walk. I also have a .22 slow twist barrel kit that shoots pellets (RDMs) as well as my .22 Red Wolf HP, so I'll be installing that to shoot the Open Class Speed Silo at EBR also (I have a 24 shot Midwest Elite Airguns magazine for the DW, works perfectly!) I'll swap barrels between events.

Anyway, if you've had reservations about the Delta Wolf or Alpha Wolf, no worries - they are now good to go, and are very highly recommended! Yes, they are expensive. But so is a Ferrari or Aston Martin, and that's what you're getting...

now you tell me right after i bought a red wolf hp in 22! lol. after hearing all the so so comments on the delta and alpha i didn’t think they were worth it.
Yes, agree with TMH. The .22 Red Wolf HP is a super accurate gun, and competition proven for quite a few years now. It had the high overall score at RMAC 2021 and won EBR 2021, what more is there to say? If down the road you end up deciding to add a .30 caliber to your collection, consider the Delta or Alpha Wolf...

I am somewhat disappointed that my Alpha .177 doesn't shoot slugs well. After having a RedWolf 177 standard for a bit that shot slugs lights out I had hoped the AW/DW barrels would up to the task. My 177 barrel only shoots pellets well, and is somewhat picky at that. I've found the pellets that give amazing accuracy in the 10-16gr range so I'm good for a bit of a selection as it can make a single spread out hole at 42 yards with the JSB 16.2gr @ ~900 fps for close to 30fpe.

It seems the .177 and .22 barrels are very slow twist and only work well with pellets. I've seen Dana do some amazing long 100-125 yards off hand hunting shots with the NSA 43gr and JSB 50gr from the .30 barrel. I do plan to order a .30 barrel assy down the road. Nice to see confirmation from others that the .30 barrel does not dissappoint.

Do you mind sharing what slugs you were shooting out of the .177 Redwolf that did well? I have a .177 standard that will be delivered on Friday. It’s got a Heliboard installed so I can also adjust the velocity. Thanks!

I have a standard .177 Pulsar that I use for FT at 20 FPE. Last year when slugs were allowed, I shot the JSB KO 13.43 slugs at about 800 FPS and it was every bit as accurate with them as with the Monster RDs. This should be comparable to the Red Wolf standard .177 as they share the same barrel. I never tried them faster. Its easy to see why the AAFTA banned slugs since the wind resistance with the KO slugs was TWICE what it was with the Monster RD pellets. I shot them side by side in the same wind with the .25 King Heavy at 900 FPS and the drift was comparable at 50 yards...

One heck of an endorsement! Not (currently) in the market for a high end .30 caliber, but if I were... well, I'd know where to start looking!

Thanks for posting. When it comes to these expensive guns, good to have plenty of stats/reviews to research. Mo' data = Mo' better

As I recall it shot the NSA 12.5 single hole at 50 yards. Even with a heliboard I couldn't get more than 25 fpe out of the standard RedWolf so the NSA 15s shot a bit slow, but still very accurate. I bet the Daystate Howlers @ 12.6gr would also shoot very well.

My Delta Wolf 177 would not shoot the FX or JSB in 10.34. Thanks to ctshooter's previous post on the matter, I switched to JSB 13.43 and/or FX 13.43 both of which the gun seems to like. I have a few tins of the H&N 10.65 but have not tested them yet.

Now is someone just explained the relationship between the hammer time (mu), voltage and reg pressure, then I might be better able to fine tune the DW. BTW - I did get my hands on the Alpha conversion kit. To me the bright red wooden grip set makes the DW look a little less intimidating.

Centercut, I am curious what is your settings on the .30 cal pellets for the delta wolf ? I will try to duplicate the setting to see how it punches. I tried slugs might need to clean the barrel but accuracy is so so with 30 cal fx slugs, nielsons and other brands.
Curious on your voltage, reg pressure, dwell time to give me a rough estimate to play with. IF you are saying you are hitting dingers at 150 yards or close to that and 100 yard groups are under 1 inch then yea I might as well find a tune for pellets and leave it at that.

I will try to find a tune for slugs but I only have so much patience and spending hours upon hours trying to figure out why things will not group can only go so far. That being said, hey 30 cal 50 grain pellets might be the key to saving the 30 cal in my delta wolf. The .177 works pretty solid, just got in a .22 barrel, and have the 30 cal barrel uninstalled......

Thanks for any input.

Here’s my high power setting for the 50.1 grain pellets. I’ve lowered it down to 880 fps from 920 since it’s more accurate and consistent at the lower speed. Plus the gun sounds and feels much smoother. Down 300 to 350 micro-sec and down 2.5 volts with reg at 132 should give you close to 880 fps.

CENTERCUT..... Now this is what I am talking about as far as the strength of the delta wolf !!!!!
I can see clearly what you have and that gives me a rough indication right from the get go. I will try and see where my rifle falls in as far as power and accuracy. Thanks again.

Here’s my 880 settings.I think in the above one I was shooting 44.75 gr not 50.15. I just did this one.

I'm on the waiting list for the Alpha Wolf but have the same questions as Maineiac. If I ordered the Delta Wolf instead, other than the stock and sight mount are all the internals now the same? I just hate the thought of tripping over something falling on my face (as I normally do) and scratching the beautiful Alpha Wolf stock. Also the Delta Wolf is in stock so no wait.

Thanks,

Jeremy
