I'll agree having seen a FEW black washers made from some sort of plastic. By be aware HOW the pressure bears against such a washer being from I.D. outward or just in crush ?
The only thing holding an exposed washer in place is the compressive crush of the tightened fitting / gauge etc ... The material itself under the high pressure we use will split it open as if breaking / tearing a donut in half !!
DOWDY seals are used in such straight thread exposed ( Non Tapered pipe ) application for this reason.
Now if said sealing donut in down inside the female threaded part and the male part places it in ONLY crush you don't have the same issue as stated above and delrin should work fine so long as its outward expansion is contained by the inner walls of the female side.
