Athlon has a pretty good price cushion. Saw the top of the line Cronus for around $1200-$1300 not that long ago maybe a little cheaper but wasn't in the market for it so didn't press the buy button. I think they can go much lower than that. Mid to low $11xx was the cheapest I found it for but their company (not Athlon) was price matching and offering 13% discount on top of it.

If I was in the market I'd consider this vortex strike eagle which is on sale for $369, although it has min 20 yard parallax.

Although to be totally honest I would probably not get another athlon, I've had had a talos and argos and neither really fit my eye and I didn't love the reticle. But I also don't mind second focal plane, I'm mostly shooting at a fixed distance. So there's better options, IMO, at Athlon's typical price points for me.

Try the $224 BARRA from SUPCASE on EBay. Offer $175 then he may counter offer $185 or $200 shipped. Great Japan 10 yard side focus scope worth trying. Received my second order. Amazon for price reference only don't pay $999.99 plus $28.00 shipping. Pay $200 or less shipped! Don't like it sell it for a profit and use Amazon price for selling reference. Surely you can sell a $999.99 Japan 10 yard side focus SFP Mildot scope for more than $200.

Thanks for the tip, I ordered one, you are right Amazon still shows $999.00 for this scope and the buyer still has a listing for this scope at twice the $224 that I paid. I'm on my second Aztec scope that cannot hold calibration so I'm ready for a change, not to mention it's nearly useless at full magnification due to the cloudiness.

Can not go wrong with an Athlon Midas Tac, really wonderful scopes. Love the floating dot center. If that Barra scope had a floating dot i would try it out.

So color me interested, but highly skeptical. What are the chances this is a chinese ripoff? Why does barra website not mention japan anywhere? Why is ebay listing a 1 year warranty but on barra site its lifetime?
Then features, does it have etched glass? Why does it not have an adjustable objective??? Isnt that a really important feature especially for the clarity at full magnifcation claim you make? Also it weighs 32oz's?
Lastly whats the chances someone on ebay has a room full of highly desireable $1k scopes?? Vs a room full of ?? Id be really curious to see some pros chime in on this

Just pass on this one and wait till the price goes up before you hit the buy button. Higher the price less skepticism. Maybe that's why he lists 2 prices for this scope which I also bought on my second order even at the $455 price then realized it was the exact same scope as the cheaper one. Good marketing strategy so he deserved double the money from me second time around I guess!

It is brighter and clearer than the Bushnell TAC 4.5-30x50 which is also Japan made that has a 25 yard side focus. This is a closer comparison and can't Even simagine a Chinese knockoff to be this clear compared to a Japan made Bushnell TAC that has a retail price over $1300.
It has a superior eyebox to the SWFA SS 3-15x42 and brighter and clearer with better color contrast at the same power levels when doing a side by side.

This lower H30 series are also clear all the way to max power I couldn't believe it. It looks brighter and almost as clear as my SWFA SS 3-15x42 and has a nicer eyebox too. It's totally okay to be skeptical. That's human nature. I like to live a little (well...more like a lot) and am an adventurer and a risk taker (obviously). Like to try everything out at least once and return a lot of unacceptable goods especially the ones that are all overpriced with sub par QC.
Except for Chinese compressors that aren't Yong Hengs purchased from Wal-Mart with the extended 4 year warranty! Oh and Except the worrisome Daystate 110 (Coltri MCH3) compressor too. Oh and Except the Hatsan Semiautos too.
I like to find the diamonds in the rough for dirt cheap.

The 20x42 SWFA SS kinda sucks it's not perfectly clear like the 10x42 versions what a disappointment!!!
Even the Alpha6 is clearer than the SWFA SS 20x42. AAAAAND...Of course the Barra is even clearer than the Alpha6 which essentially literally ultimately SMOKES THE SWFA SS 20x. BIG PROPS if the BARRA labeled Japan made is a Chinese knockoff!!!
Oh the BARRA is also clearer than the SWFA SS 10x42 but just beats the 10x42 hands down no contest but doesn't smoke it like it does the 20x42.
It sure SMOKES the SWFA SS 3-15x42 FFP though both optically and eyebox friendliness too with a much better over sight picture. No comparison night and day difference like comparing the Alpha6 to an Aztec Emerald or a Vortex Diamondback tactical or Athlon Argos or Helos or a discontinued 2020 model Hawke Sidewinder 30. Absolutely No comparison.

The BARRA is optically SUPERIOR TO ALL THE SWFA SS Scopes 10x42 and 20x42 and 3-15x42 FFP by a hands down night and day difference that There's absolutely no comparison.
This alone is highly unlikely that the Barra is a Chinese knockoff IMHO!!!

The SWFA SS are POS compared to the Barra according to my eyes after taking the time to deliberately doing side by sides over the last couple days.
These SWFA SS Scopes are great and superior if you have never looked through anything higher end and nothing remotely clearer and only looked through Athlons Vortex Hawkes Aztecs and Element and so on. Sure the SWFA SS would look perfect compared to those other scopes and the like. Now imagine a scope that is better than the SWFA SS? Night and day difference here.

The problem is this is basically a no name company at least i never heard of them before and apparently the internet hasnt either since that particular scope is only found on amazon and ebay. So the $1k price tag thats been a big selling point in this thread means nothing, nobody else is selling them so it's basically a made up number. To go alone with that the lifetime warranty comes into question, if the scope breaks where are the reviews of people getting taken care of, nowhere i can find so if it breaks i could be out a whole scope. I mean their website doesnt even have a email, just a form to fill out. Not sure about a phone number or address either. Their facebook has been dead since 2018 from what i can tell.
I did find 1 discussion on this scope or a similar one and it said something along the lines of, the turrents dont match the reticle, not about accuracy but the design was weird? Im on phone otherwise id find the link but it was like 8 pages deep into Google.
So is it a great scope and a great deal? I mean if its as you say and really clear as you say thats great but just about everything else about it seems a little off in my opinion. Those mil dots look huge, id prefer a slightly different setup on that, the scope weighs a ton but i guess its a high magnifier, and i cant really find much of a spec list on it so again etched glass or wire? I want to like this but i feel like this is a HUGE gamble after 30days of ownership. I mean if its a great scope someone do a video review already send yours to cyclops im sure he'll sign it and send it back lol

Just WAIT till many already gotten theirs to give their impressions then the price probably doubles then you buy yours even after it doubles you still pay half price even paying more than $200 extra after missing out on this deal the first round.

This scope is clearer than THIS one which was also a NO NAME BRAND only few months ago. This Barra has a more WOW factor than this...

Thats actually the one i plan to buy mostly because it has a useful reticle, but also because it goes down and up just a tad more in magnification, plus has illumination, and that company looks like it actually still exists. A warranty is worth a big chunk of cash on a nice scope. To be honest i do have a offer in on one of your scopes but if its not accepted by time i wake up im canceling and getting my alpha6 with my free double ended hatchet because i have a .25 avenger arriving tomorrow thats not here yet but already waited long enough for her scope to be selected. She will have to use a cheap bushnell banner until a proper scope arrives. Which really is the alpha because i need holdover and im new to this but im pretty sure those mil dots arnt going to do much for me in that regard but maybe im wrong. I feel like those are spread out a bit far
