Daystate Regal accuracy 60 yards tests

@zx. here are my speed:

16gr @ 840 fps

18gr @ 795fps

20.2gr @ 714fps

My regal used to run a bit faster before. Not sure why the lost in velocity, but as long as it shoots well, I am not too worried.

@corvid. Yes every barrel and gun is slight different and the speed will dictate what projectile is best. Only way to find out is to test them yourself.

@oak. Yes I am very pleased with my Regal. Once I found the preferred pellet and weight, it is lights out.

@Dave. thank you I am very happy to have bought it.

Impressive groups with all of them.

I think it's difficult to draw any conclusions with one 5 shot group. OR I should say it is for me. I might have an opinion of a really good pellet one day and the next it drops to average or worse. DRIVES ME NUTS and to keep trying. So there is some good with the bad. It it was all that easy we'd all never miss. And of course conditions are rarely the same.

I did notice that you have a very steady hold and good trigger release which certainly shows in you groups. I often see a heart beat squiggle on my target. Course I'm and old guy so I have an excuse.

@zx. thanks for the info. Since my Regal is performing so well with the current power output, I don't want to mess it up. It will be fed the AA16gr and Hades for now. I just got back from Farm Z to do some doves and starlings pesting using my Regal. Got 4 doves and 1 starling ranges 40-77 yards with Hades and AA16gr. It will be on the next video.

@bubbler. thank you. yes it is often frustrating and confusing when the groups opened up day to day. But that could due to wind and temperature, especially when you are tying to tune a gun with a certain projectile. Luckily my Regal has been very consistent and it hasn't given me much grief like my other guns. You just have to be patience and find the right combination of pellet, size, weight and your power plant. Impact is a great gun but finding the "harmonic tune" can be very tough. I am still buried, trying to find the light at the end of the tunnel. Others have warned about the long process in tuning this Impact, and I am beginning to understand why.

As with the Regal's trigger, it is very smooth and clean break. As a result, there is not much movement and thus the steady groups. I tried to squeeze the trigger on the exhale, but seldom happens when I am pesting as I ofter get too exited, lol.

thanks for watching.

Thanks for sharing Max115. I tried to shoot a couple of .218 20.2gr NSA's and I was afraid I was going to bend the bolts pellet probe they were so tight. I have a couple of .217's left from my sample pack so I may see how tight they fit tomorrow. The new .216's might be a good option too. My previous Regal had a really tight breech as well. Is yours tight and how much effort did it require to chamber the slugs compared to your 16gr? I'm happy with the performance of my Regal shooting the 16's or 18's. It's just not a real power house to launch slugs with much velocity. I know how and have adjusted the power on mine and currently have my 16's running about 930. Also as far as the 20.2's go, my Impact shooting them at 1030 really loves them, actually I think just as accurate as the 25.4 RD's.

@jking. Yes my regal was really tight with the .217 NSA slug. hopefully the .216 will work better. The AA16gr was 5.52mm and they go in snug. I found the redesign 25.4gr shot really tight group with my Impact launching them at 880fps. I will do more testing and video on the Redesign 25.4gr with my Impact MK2 as a reference. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Thank you. I believe if you could get the 18.13s up to between 840 – 900 that they’d begin to show dominance.

A good compromise tune would be to shoot the 15.89s at 900 fps and the 18.13s at 860 fps.

==============================================================================================================

Alex, nice shooting! I shoot mine regularly at 50 yards and do get 1/2" groups, but if I shoot 8 five shot groups, my average is probably more in the 1/2" to 3/4" range, and only if wind is minimal.

Derrick, re. your comments above. I have a DS Regal XL .22 caliber (with HUMA) which was tuned last Spring by Scott (Motorhead Tuning) and after the tune, the Regal was shooting the JSB 18.1 at 805 FPS average and JSB 15.89 at around 850 FPS. For whatever reason ( and like Alex mentioned in his post), the velocity has diminished quite a bit and I cannot figure out why. I checked the breech O ring and it is fine, but now my Regal is shooting at 760 FPS with the 18.1 and around 810 FPS with the 15.89.

Gun is not loosing air as far as I can tell, but I am suspicious. Q. Does anyone know if there is any YouTube video that shows how to adjust the Hammer Spring with the Regal? I know it does take time, but I would like to try and turn up the power to about 840-860 FPS for the 18.1 and assume the 15.89 will be close to 900 FPS as Derrick mentioned above. The 15.89 has pretty much always done a bit better with my Regal, but at 760 FPS, it does seem too slow right now.

Thanks, Tom

My .22 Regal classic loves 18.13s. I got mine from @Humdinger about a month ago.

When I first shot it over the chrony after unboxing and inspecting, I was like WHOA 😯

This little guy was chunking 15.89s at 970 fps. I couldn’t believe it. Of course, that’s too fast for them. Got out the 18.13s and it was sending them at 925 fps.

A full string, with the 18.13s, sees me filling to 2,600 psi. From there, starts at 885 fps climbs to 935 fps and then back to 885 fps for 24 shots. At first impression, I wanted to detune and get more shots. On second thought, though, I bought the little booger to hunt squirrels and there is no reason to shoot more than 24 shots on a single hunt session.

Its crazy accurate with the 18.13s and I can assure you, squirrels crumble to it. Head shots at 60 yards haven’t been a problem.

I reached out to the previous owner and he did change the hammer spring out. I kinda suspected that 😉

@Tommy. Thanks. When I first got my Regal 2017, it was shooting the JSB 18gr at 840fps, 40 shots per 220Bar fill. Mine is a 30ft.lb version. There is a higher 40ft.lb model which I didn't get as I wanted more shot counts. As of today (795fps), I have lost 45fps and don't know why that is. Luckily the accurate is still there, so not the end of the world.

@zx. I believe yours might be the 40ft.lb version thus the lower shot counts. Great gun this Daystate Regal is.

Alex,

No, mine is definitely the 30 FPE version but like you, cannot figure out why velocity has declined. Like Derrick, mine is mainly a squirrel gun and I would not mind the reduced shot count by bumping up the velocity for the 18.1 to around 860-880 FPS. I would even be happy with something a little bit less too in terms of FPS. But, 765 FPS with the JSB 18.1 is not the sweet spot for accuracy, for me anyway. The 15.89 does pretty well at 35-40 yards at the current 810 FPS, but at 50 yards I'm struggling a bit with both.

Again, and since it has been mentioned in this thread, does anyone know if there is a YouTube instructional video either on DS website or Internet which details how to adjust / remove/ replace the Hammer Spring for the Regal? I would like to give it a try.

Tom
