Daystate Redwolf magazine problem

No, you are fine. That recess, like the one in the bottom of the single shot tray, offers sufficient clearance for the old style index pin. The issue is metal fatigue in the pin, and using it with the new mags, or the CARM, is placing it that much closer to failure. But, if I wanted to continue using both style mags, I would do as you, rather than switching out the pin or plug for one type of magazine or the other. It's not a big deal, but it's not something I want to do on a daily basis. Just have a spare pin on hand in case you need it. Something to remember, occasionally when the pin breaks, it jams up the magazine in a manner that makes it difficult to remove. If the pin is jammed hard between the magazine and breech block, I'm not sure how they get it out. Assuming the probe can be pulled out of the way, I suppose the mag could be tapped out from the side, but it seems like something is likely to be damaged in that process.

Thanks, that makes sense to me. I'm really only using the old style magazines for an Air Wolf now, and switched to the new style (or CARM's) for the Wolverine. Where can you get a plug to replace the indexing pin?

I got mine from Steve at AOA. I'm not sure if it is a Daystate part, or something they fabricate, it would be easy with the right equipment. Unless things have changed, Daystate has been very noticeably silent on this issue. I asked about it in an email to them, finally got a response weeks later. Which was, "no problem, the new magazines are totally compatible with the older rifles". It reminds me of some vehicle situations in which the manufacturer chooses to repair the cars that fail, rather than admitting a problem and offering a recall. I guess AOA has an interest in preventing this repair issue.

I think the problem may be not enough spring wound tension in the new style magazines when running heavier than average pellets or Too much spring tension using too light or too short pellets. The holes need to be smaller in all aspects feeding pellets through them more snug.

Daystate should shave the middle pellet wheel thinner and add a backing plate in different size thickness to make up the pellet length gap with a tighter hole drilled through the spacer takeup plate with a perfect probe diameter to feed the Pellet through to prevent it from backing out.

Good thoughts, but I'm afraid that level of precision may not be feasible in a system that relies on the magazine to do everything in the feeding cycle. I've never had a function or accuracy issue with the magazines for my HW100 or Taipan Veteran. Both are simple cylinders that are aligned and rotated mechanically by the action. The new Daystate and CARM mags work well in my Red Wolf, but neither yield the same level of accuracy as the single shot tray. In contrast, the Weihrauch and Taipan are both fully as accurate using the magazine. In fact, after testing them both ways, I shoot them both exclusively with the mags.
