Daystate Red Wolf .22 - what to expect for consistent accuracy?

DHart, I see that you don't mention the fps so you don't have a chrono right? Clean the barrel for sure but, you need to slow the pellet down a bit. I bet on HI it is shooting the 18's at over 1000 fps. Mine shoots about 950 fps with the 25 gr JSB. Try shooting the 18's on LOW power. That will still spit them in the 850 range. Mine is super accurate with 18's on low. But then it is also very accurate with the 25's on Hi and Med.

So maybe clean the barrel, put about 20-30 shots through it to season the barrel again and then try shooting the 18's slower. I bet you'll see a big difference.



I shot this card with 25's on MED at 50 yards this week. The groups on the diamond points are all 10 shot groups.

You must have the HP version if yours is sending a 25 gr pellet at 950 fps? Mine is the standard version, not HP.

Here are the velocity tests done by Daystate and by AoA:

Daystate Factory Chronograph Test

21.4 gr pellet = Avg 861.2 fps

AoA Chronograph Test (which I assume was an 18.13 gr pellet, though I'm not sure as the test printout doesn't specify pellet weight)

18.13 gr pellet = Avg 918 fps

How does this compare to the velocity numbers for your RW?

Oh I didn't notice that yours was not HP. Yes mine is tuned way up and it is HP. If I shoot the 18's on HI it is over 1000 fps. With the polygon barrel, you can shoot the pellets a lot faster than with a regular rifled barrel (ie. smooth twist).

I did notice shooting the 18's at 50y is a bit more unpredictable than the heavier pellets. Just a tiny wind can move them around a good bit. If you look at the bottom right diamond in the pic I uploaded, you will see a line of pellet holes. That is due to the wind that day. Typically for me, horizontal means wind, vertical means possibly pellet weight variance or reg variance. But scattered is something else. Maybe things will be different after you try a clean barrel.

Its' interesting I presumed DHART's RW was a HP because of the barrel lenght, the standard is 6" or so shorter, perhaps the picture is deceptive.

I was shooting 34's today with some pretty amazing accuracy. The 34's do about 845 fps on HI. It shoots the 25's around 965 fps. Crazy flat trajectory for a 25 gr pellet.

Crusher... I am now enjoying the Red Wolf .22 HP. I haven’t tried any 34s yet, but man those JSB 25s fly right, true, and hit damned hard. I wasn’t more than about 25 pellets into breaking in the .22HP that I brought home today, with targets tonight, when a rabbit hopped straight into my world to chomp away on cacti that I had planted. He had no concerns at all that I happened to be blasting away at targets 48 yards away. And then... what an impactful THWACK those 25s make when launched from a Red Wolf at a bit under 1000 fps. WOW! 50 fpe in the form of a 25 gr lead pelllet is potent medicine! DRT for the unfortunate rabbit, but he will certainly be a tasty midnight snack for the coyotes who cruise through here nightly. This is Indeed a powerful and exceptionally accurate .22 air rifle. For my needs, I’m beginning to realize that I really have no need for a .25, nice as they are to shoot. I might even try a .177 Daystate Regal for my next air rifle.

I think its purely profit/business as all airgun blanks coming from LW are the same length and cost whether poly or standard. They don't even charge differently for different barrel thicknesses. Machining cost should be the same too, even if LW does it all for them.

Kindly do one thing, insert the pellet from breach and push it carefully with the rod till it comes out of muzzle. Remember barrels are choked near to muzzle so no worry. Once pellet is out of muzzle carefully examine it if it has dents on it due to riugh surfaces at start of rifling. Its a major problem with this airgun. There would be velocity variation as well. I am going through same issue
