Daystate and breech seals

Just curious is anyone else has had the same experience. I have a Pulsar HP and a Renegade both of which have frequent breech seal failures, while my FX rifles have never had a single failure. My Brocock Bantam has a few failures too, but they've been my fault.

So full disclosure I don't have any first-hand experience here, but what I've heard is that the breech o-ring failures on the DS rifles are linked to the whole anti-double-load-magazine issue. The theory as I've heard it is that the bolt probe lock pushes the probe off center thus creating a larger gap than the o-ring was meant to bridge on that side and thus it extrudes out through the gap and fails prematurely.

Of course I may have no idea what I'm talking about, but trying a higher duro o-ring might be a cheap and easy way to extend your breech seal o-ring's life expectancy irrespective of the problem's source.

i had a daystate r hp in .22 and have 3 friend with the same rifle and all 4 rifles have that problem, i solved mines by increasing the oring caliber a little bit... but the 3 rifles of my friends every 100-150 pellets they break the breech oring... and they have spares that they bought from AOA and also with those, they have to change them frecuently.... can believe that a 2300 usd rifle have that quality problem!! very sad!

That's my theory as well. My Renegade lost approx. 8 seals in 3 months after I bought it. I started using the SST after noticing the probe damage and didn't lose anymore. AOA replaced the pellet probe as it was damaged so badly and I've gone back to using the magazine again, so we'll see.

Is it still happening after taking off that little primary hook on the mag? Mines been fine since then.

I did buy one of the pneumatic ballistics 20shot magazines to see how they stack up, as they are self indexing (similar to theoben/fx mags) and extremely well made, with very clever machining to prevent pellet shaving. It arrived just before I left on vacation so haven't tested it much yet, but initial impressions are good Should avoid any issues related to the indexing pin and the magazine spring is much weaker than the Daystate ones, so very little strain ought to be put on the pellets or the probe. The latter may stop the breech seal issue?

I'll post an update once I've tested it properly.

Since I changed to Viton O Rings I have yet to experience a failure. My O Rings always failed after cleaning. This is not the case any longer. I have Rengade HP in .25, Renegade standard in 22 cal and a RW HP in 22 cal.

and is incredible for the last 8 months I've changed 15 times the breach seal, it happens every 

100-150 shots I'm very sad and is not fair. Do you know any update from Daystate?

Daystate will not admit that there is a magazine issue, so I doubt they'll admit there is any breech seal problem either.

I relieved the secondary catch or hook from the anti double load device that was contacting the probe of my RW hp. right after purchasing rifle, haven’t had a problem since, have approximately +1600 rnds thru gun and still on original o-ring ( to be fair 1/3 of those were from single shot tray!) also because of original damage to probe I contacted Daystate which directed me to AoA where I purchased gun and they sent me a new probe no questions asked! so I’m very happy so far with performance and accountability of Daystate and AoA, cannot say the same for my issues with my fx crown... or their U.S. repair facilities?

A good thing to check is if daystate still has the lands and grooves running up to the entry point of the barrel. I recall from the Daystate MK4iS I used to have that the lands and grooves were running up to the entry of the barrel. This causes the oring to rub against the lands and grooves during cocking and shots which deteriorates the probe oring at a very rapid pace, had to replace the oring about every 1000 shots at 40 joules. Combine this with the magazine off-center feeding mentioned above and the orings will be destroyed even faster

It would be helpful if some would give some detailed info about the mag modification. I haven’t had a problem with my Red Wolf or Huntsman but I did blow a seal out of the brocock. I believe it was from firing the gun with out the bolt being tightly closed. My problem was I lost the seal. Fortunately two extra sent with the gun. That must mean that some one is awear of the problem. You know the O rings cost a nickel each. They really out did themselves sending TWO. Just try to find a 1.5 x 5 mm O ring. You will get some strange looks. What I found interest is at all of the five places I tried. I told them what I needed and they immediately said. “ Don’t have them” and then ask “what’s it for”. I told some and others I said “does it matter? “ kinda bugged me.

I was getting low on breech seals so I sent for some from Oringsandmore.com. Ordered on June 4th and they arrived on the 7th. Good prices and fast delivery, I will be ordering from them again.

For my .257 slug guns, I have gone to cast poly o rings from the o ring store. All problems ended with them at 90 durometer. 



I made a custom bolt and probe for one gun that has a mag. As I didn't have a lathe, I machined an o ring grove into the face or the bolt to probe juncture. It is a very high wear area. The Poly o rings hold up far better than any thing I have used to date. 



these O rings were originally purchased for the high side of the Shoe Box F-10. Turns out they are not good replacements at all. However, they fill the need i the AG's just fine.

When I first got my RedWolf HP, I removed the barrel and gave it a deep cleaning, at that point I changed the Buna seal to a Viton. I applied a small dab of high temp vacuum grease to the seal and seated it in. A little over 4000 rounds, no issues. I actually gained speed... from 928 to 945 fps with the JSB Redesigned Monsters.
