Days like yesterday are why I shoot airguns, how about you?

Yesterday was one of those days when everything finally comes together. And I’m referring to the red wolf walnut high-power 22 that I bought this summer.

It’s not about competing in BR which I’ve never done officially. It’s not about competing in field target which I’ve done for 20 years.

Nope, It’s about finally pushing past the barrier, and having a day. There are many many more days where nothing spectacular happens, which is what makes a great day, great. It’s kind of like a good day fishing, if it happened every time you went it would be great, but it’s much better when it truly does happen, because it is so rare.

I bought a red wolf, new this summer. I have not bought a new air rifle in years, I usually buy slightly used. From everything I’ve read, I believed it was going to be a super accurate incredible machine.

I’ve had a bit of a tough time getting It to live up to that expectation. I’ve had some good days, shot some good groups, but overall I’ve been pretty frustrated.

And then I finally listened to a few people like yo. And tried some knockabouts. KOs

I tried them first at 115 yards. I was shooting on high power. And getting pretty nice groups. Then I turned it down to medium. And I shot one group. It’s the one with all the white space around it in the pictures. I was holding on a staple 8 inches above the group, it was now dropping significantly compared to high power. That group was well under a half inch.

For a few hours, (and it wasn’t dead calm). It was like shooting a 17 HRM, a really accurate 17 HRM. All of the groups are at 100 yards except the first one shot at 115

This is what I was looking for when I bought this rifle. The trajectory of the knock outs, is absolutely beautiful. No loops. No weird tails at the end. And very suitable in the wind. And repeatable.

I can’t wait to play more, and at longer range.

Enjoy your shooting!

What keeps you coming back to the range?

The HeliBoard is a replacement board for your stock Daystate GCU2.0. The GCU has three power levels and three set points within each power level. The gun has an algorithm to interpolate between those set points as you shoot and pressure decreases. The HeliBoard has twelve power levels and 20 set points for each power level. Plus board capacitor voltage can be raised or lowered to raise or lower the entire shot curve within a specific power level. For example, on power level 8 my gun shoots the RD Monsters at approx 975 FPS. At level 9 it shoots the JSB KOs at 990 FPS. And at power level 7 it shoots the FX Hybrids at 960 FPS. From my experimenting, optimum speeds for all three. The board is about $260 and you order it from the manufacturer in Greece. Easy to install.

Let him know what voltage your battery is. Probably three cell 11.1vdc if the latest GCU high power.
