Dang it! that white Locktite!!!

Hi all. First off, MERRY CHRISTMAS! Now... I have a Hatsan with the shrouded barrel Locktited (friggin' glued!) to the reciever... How the heck do I get the thing off?? I tried twisting it with nylon clad pliers. I already tried heating, the rife body acts like a heat sink. Please give me some insight? is there some kind of solvent for this stuff? do they use this stuff so a person cannot work on the thing?

Very serious heating with a small gas torch , and then applying pressure, is the only remedy I know. Yes, it's uncomfortable. But I haven't broken anything yet. The good news is that powder coated aluminum is not easily damaged.

Disclaimer: no warranty, whether express or implied, etc. Is this the best solution? No, but I don't know a better one. The only thing I do know is that mechanical pressure alone does damage.

Locktite makes a solvent for that glue. "The Loctite 235018 is a clear cleaning solvent that comes in a 1.75 fl oz bottle. The flammable liquid is designed to clean and dissolve cured cyanoacrylate based adhesives, it is great for use in the disassembly of parts and cleanup of dispensing equipment." Right from Locktites website. We use this at work all the time. Be aware it desolves paint and attacks most plastics. Probably not great for o-rings either.

DO NOT DISASSEMBLE IT!

PLZ DONT VOID YOUR WARRANTY!!!

YOU GONNA NEED IT!!!

Mr. Odoyle. thanks for the heads up but I already know about this flaw, which is a set screw in front of the trigger assembly. The factory fix is/was WHITE LOCTITE on the set screw! apparently they felt that they should also put this stuff on every freakin' screw! I have already voided the warrantee by removing the inspection plates to lube the gun and check all the components. NBD, I bought it used. What a pain that was! I stripped 3 Phillips head screws and had to use a torch and an easy out to remove them. I replaced them with Allen screws and no Loctite! The barrel shroud was the last component I tried to disassemble as it makes cleaning the barrel much easier with the shroud removed. BTW there are some great Russian videos on youtube that show the whole disassembly/assembly process in great detail. Until I watched them, I didn't know that it was advantageous to understand the Russian language in this hobby! 😁

As for the other advice, yes, I will try the solvent next! Thanks!!

Not sure if this locking compound is similar to what is generally used in bonding silencers, such as the HW100. If so, it takes more heat than you might think. A heat gun is probably best. I don't have one, but I have used a Bernzomatic torch to remove them. The gas torch gets considerably hotter than the heat gun, and may slightly discolor the metal of the rear cover on the silencer. So, I expect it might have the same effect on your shroud. It is barely noticeable and doesn't bother me, but it is a risk. I feel sure the gas torch will work, but I would recommend the heat gun as the safer method, and probably less likely to have a visible effect on the metal.
