DaisyM853 single stroke pneumatic -- received from Civilian Marksmanship Program

The gun was $120 total and that included shipping.

It shoots great with little cocking effort and only requires ONE pump. Still going through pellets and it seems to like H & N Field Target Trophy 8.64grain. Only maybe 30 shots so far and I was sure it was off the paper hitting dirt but it wasn't, it was making one holers.

What's In The Box:
one used rifle
manual
rear peep site in separate box
arm shooting sling
butt plate extenders x 2 for adult shooting LOP

It was VERY WELL packaged and is grouping nicely at 10yards with a Feyachi red & green dot reflex sight. Not coordinated at placing pellets in the breech yet but that will come.

The Gun Itself:
low velocity .177
used and it looks like it ;) ;) ;)
Monte Carlo style stock
VERY heavy sight at muzzle attached by sliding over barrel with set screws
cocking is smooth
power up stroke is easy
* power is not why I bought it

So happy for ya JPDX!

Fun guns to slow down with and really enjoy the process of shooting.

i have the 953 (repeater) in a 853 (wood) stock. Bought it used. I guess the 953 doesn’t have LW barrel? I’m not really sure on all the the differences but whatever they are I’m really dig mine. I sort of feel bad though because it doesn’t get as much attention as it should. Currently mine is scoped but I like your idea of a red dot.

During the warmer months I’ll bait yellow jackets and pick them off with the Daisy! Mine seems to like the 8.4 JSBs. It seems to be pellet picky or maybe it’s just me. I haven’t done a single thing to it since I received it a few years ago. Maybe I should give the barrel a good cleaning and polish and see if that makes a difference?

Good Morning bReTt,

Thank You and I am happy with it too. Your stock is purdeeeeee, mine is trashed but well oiled.

Your statement is very true... "Fun guns to slow down with and really enjoy the process of shooting."

Only a few pellets down the tube and trying to decide on optics to match my age and vision, definitely not a peep sight kinda guy!

This seems like good starling gun!!!

I bought one of those too, the grand daughter shows interest and ability with airguns. Only thing I didn’t like is that it sometimes pops open the pump lever when it is shot, but it is accurate otherwise. The one I got has a number 7 on the butt, apparently in black marker, and I have noticed a couple pictures that show CMP airguns with a 7 on the butt as well, made me wonder about why the number?

The cocking lever on this beast pops open after a shot too. Gotta pay attention if it's after every shot otherwise HAPPY with it.

The wood on mine is pretty but the actual finish is pretty rough. I plan on sanding and shaping it some and really trying to POP the figure in the wood.

I have had a 2-7x32 on mine and that worked well. In fact I think that is what I have on it now. I also have had a fixed 4X but the reticle was a little too fat on that to be real precise. One nice thing about it is you can use any scope you like since there isn’t any recoil. 👍🏼

I have a pair of 953 repeaters and one has a drop in OEM 753 Lothar Walther barrel and valve. Night and day difference in accuracy.

This gun, thus far, loves H&N Baracuda Hunter Extreme.

Chronied it with a few pellets listed in ascending velocity
CP Ultra Magnum, 10.5gr, 308 fps
H&N Baracuda Hunter Extreme, 9.57gr, 360 fps
CP Pointed, 7.4gr, 426 fps
RWS Super H Point, 6.9gr, 433 fps

The specs in various places online indicate a max fps of 510 and this gun has had the seals replaced by CMP as all are prior to shipping. Not sure what pellet was used to arrive at 510fps? Anyways it's a tack driver at 10 yards but shooting at 18yards it opens up and you can see the pellet 'lobbin' in.

Wondering if after a seal replacement there might be a break-in period to get to full power. Not complaining just wondering and need to buy some wadcutters!

AWESOME GUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obviously I am pretty stoked up about this gun and it's my new fly swatter for 10ish yard shooting.

I put a dovetail to picatinny adapter on it with a cheapo CV Life 4 x 32 fixed with "mil-dot" crosshairs. Great combo for me. The scope has VERY limited eye relief so I moved it back, it works and will absolutely devastate flies!!!

This scope has great clarity especially for the price.

Love my little rifle. Been using it this winter with the peep sight for the 10 meter weekly match ( don't want to talk about that) and now that we're finished with that I'm going to mount a scope of some kind because I believe this gun is the perfect candidate for lighting matches.

I've had some success with my FT gun but I think the lower velocity and superb accuracy makes this a prime candidate for that purpose. Now I just have to find the right scope.

The scope is such personal preference thing. I go back and forth on my Artemis PP750 and really would like a 5 x 40+ fixed power.

I wouldn't stand a chance with a peep sight, embarrassing.

Embarrassing sums it up but I like stepping outside my comfort zone and challenging myself. If life was easy it wouldn't be interesting.

I have the factory peep and it looks pretty in the box and I think about using it. That might be the end of comfort zone for me. Glad you are going for it.

We all know how dangerous a wounded black fly can be so I can't afford a miss.
