I like the idea of how the optimizer works. I have a question though, probably a noob question regarding the optimizer: would I not need different tapes for different pellet weights? If yes, how do you all change out the tapes when going forward and back between different pellet weights / cals.?

While I'm also still a noob to the Optimizer, 
I'm pretty sure that you are correct. Just like if you were to use two different types of pellets or weights, 
you'd have different points of impacts, thus having to account [zero] for each of them. 

The said deal would apply for swapping a scope / Optimizer combo around on multiple rifles [different rails / MOA angles]

I actually thought about that since I tend to shoot a few different rounds..

Indoors, I almost always shoot Crosman Premier 14.3g HPs 
Outdoor, I'll shoot either JSB 18s, or, H&N 21s [For longer distance / more stability]

Is there a possible work around? I think so..

If you're going to be using 2 different pellets, split the the tape down the center..
Mark which pellets you'll be using: 1 = left side of the tape 2 = right side of the tape.
Then just mark as you would normally, but, do it twice. [so you'll have yard marks for each pellet type/weight]

I don't think that the wheel or tape is wide enough to do 3 different pellets, but I'm sure that can be modded too.

Lewis, there's no gears in it. You put a blank tape on it and pencil in all the ranges you want.

The gears are internal. There are a couple of different versions but they all work on this same principal. Look at the brass gear opposite the wheel.

I don't think our models have any gears. It's more of a wheel that follows an eliptical groove in the yardage wheel. There are no gear teeth in the groove or anywhere else I can see.

Here's a tip for your Optimizer that makes it easier to make your yardage marks and gives a more precise reading. It's a real pain to be able to hold on to but a 3/32 stainless roll pin ground down a pressed over the brass "pointer". The pointer sits off the wheel almost 1/8". This gets it just off the tape an protrudes farther a crossed it. It gives you a nice straight edge to run your mark across. The key is to leave the straight edge of the roll pin seam as your indicator.

If you look right above the yardage indicator pin in the top pic you will see the small wheel that rides in the eliptical slot in the yardage wheel. The picatinny rail is spring loaded up so it always has a solid feel with no rattling or slop whatsoever. It just flat out works and works well.
