Can anyone point me in the direction of a quality stock carpenter in the states who can make a thumbhole stock for my HW30?

Not looking for anything fancy or high price. Simply a thumbhole stock for a badass little pellet pusher.

I understand great quality isnt cheap, but at the same time, you can find good quality at a good price. I’m not looking for eye catching work. Just a thumbhole stock.

$500 on a stock is not practical to me, for a simple little springer.

If you want to inlet the action these are a choice.

Otherwise you will be hard pressed to find anything made to simply drop your action into for less than $500.

Buying a custom made stock for a gun that cost 300.00 seems like it would not make sense since you will end up paying more for the stock than you did for the gun. Unless you absolutely love the gun....as I do. I own 6 HW 30. I love shooting them. One of my HW30's has been tuned, a full length barrel shroud added and I bought the most beautiful thumbhole walnut stock form Michael McKeown for it. Probably should have my head examined for what I have invested in this gun but its a treat to shoot and look at. 

If you go onto his website and look up thumbhole stocks for the HW30 you will see my stock on his gun. I will try to add a picture but I haven't quite figured that out yet

I contacted Boyds and they told me they don’t make stocks for an HW30.

No they don't but they do sell stocks that don't have the inletting done. You could probably find someone to fit the stock to your HW30 for a reasonable price. Boyd stocks are very nice and most of their thumbhole stocks are very reasonable.

Seems to me that it is the tumbhole solution more than a fancy stock you are looking for. For practical/comfort reasons maybe? Have you consider modifying the stock you already got on the rifle your self? Some filing, adding material/epoxy drilling and more filing before sanding..... it may work - or you may ruin your stock, but why not give it a try?

 I’ve given some thought. But at the same time I honestly don’t trust myself enough to do any woodwork on the stock. I thought if I could find a thumbhole stock for a couple hundred dollars it would suffice and I wouldn’t ruin anything. That and the wife wouldn’t be pissed off that I spent a fortune.

Have you considered one of the "clone" model stocks? Several thumb hole models, not sure who might have one sitting but there probably still out there.

I honestly don't know what exactly a 'clone' stock is. Can you share some info with me about that?

A "clone" is an exact (or really close) copy of a particular gun-an example-the Xisico XS25 is a close copy of the German made RWS 34.

Having said that, I am not aware of a Chinese clone of the HW 30 that you could exchange stocks with. I did get a thumbhole stock from Mike at Flying Dragon Air rifles for my HW95, it fit the gun ok, but I never ended up using it.

I would post on the classified section that you are looking to buy a wood stock for your rifle model for a specific price range. Modify that stock if you get it to your liking. Keep the original just in case.
