Curious: moderator servicing?

... someone selling a fatboy in the classifieds. In his ad he mentions "... only needing to service every 3k rounds ... " or something to that effect regarding moderators in general. 

?? Why? For real - just curious. Periodically clean out / blow out residue, dust, other build-up that may accumulate inside of them? 

First time I've seen reference to servicing a moderator.

Pretty sure you have to change the baffle fluids and belts.

Well i do clean my moderator some times, but far from as often as i would clean the barrel.

After some / many 1000 shots it is actually pretty dirty in there, and thats with a old school FX barrel, i would assume conventionally rifled barrels would be even worse.

Maybe its like cataracts. The change is so gradual you don't notice it till one day you can't see your groups anymore.

Good point though - Mine has been on my gun for well over a year. I take it off, clean the barrel and put it back on.

I’ve only wiped the baffles and tube with a cloth. What else is there to do?
