Crown info

Got to spend some time with the Crown today. Set up the Crony at 18 inches in front of the muzzle. If you take the gun out of the stock and look at the hammer spring adjuster, it's vary similar to the Impact. Block with a screw going through that contacts the cam adjuster. From the factory with a mic mine measured .774 back shoulder to screw end and was shooting the 33 grain mK ll's at 775 fps. Adjusted it to .793 and fps moved to 820 fps. Adjusted to .850 and fps increased to 835 fps. At this setting it shoots the 25 grain at 856 fps on the D setting on the hammer spring adjuster. With the 33 grain, adjuster was left on Max. Did a shot count on Max with the 33 grain from a 250 bar fill. My reg is set at 130 from the factory and I have not touched it. At 62 shots the reg was still showing 150 bar, so would assume 70 plus shots. Put everything back together to have a look at the accuracy. Wind was 5 to 10 gusting left to right. At this point took off the 8x32? Hawke off and put on a Athlon 6x24x50. Sighted in at 50 yards and it was still making one ragged hole. Reset 0 at 75 yards and it was shooting about 1 inch groups. My 100 yard target measures 106 yards. That's the edge of the hay field. At the 106 yards it was keeping everything within 2 inches. Most of the shots that were wide were left to right. I didn't try and change POI for the wind. I noticed the 2nd adjustment on the adjuster didn't net near the increase as the first adjustment. I'm assuming that to increase from here a reg increase of 5 to 7 bar is in order. Another thing i noticed at max setting is that it's not so quiet. Has a bit of a crack, but not bad. Will wait for a morning with no wind and then I can see what I've got. Next is lightning up the trigger. I keep hoping Tom is going to take that. I'm really liking the Crown. Sylvan

Thank you for posting this (especially with the measurements). + to you when I get back to my computer! Exceptionally timely info for me right now!
I did the same adjustment to my Impact but forgot to re-locktite it... Lesson learned, Don't forget to re-locktite it! lol

it'll be a few days before in can get back to it (on 48hr shift). Dad's in town too so, house projects are taking up lots of time. But, I do want to post my findings. Stop by my thread about reg adjustment how-to.

My Crown was shooting the MK I's at 795fps and the MK II 33.95's at 810fps on max settings from the factory. Wanting to bump that up a bit, I raised the reg pressure to 140 ish from 130 where it was from the factory (these are gauge readings and seem to be + 5 bar from what I can tell so far). After raising the reg pressure the MK II's shot at 780fps....that's right it slowed down! Took the stock off and noticed the hammer spring had lots of play so adjusted it to .836" which raised the MK I speed to 843 and the MK II to 848. Further testing the JSB 25.34's I found the "B" setting produced 882fps and the "4" setting was at 888. I had good accuracy initially at 880 so was glad to see that is still available. I may have overshot the sweet spot of 830 for the MK II's but will test accuracy tomorrow to see where I go from here. The tuning flexibility of this rifle is awesome!

Gwelo. Were you were at 810 fps with the MK ll's you might go back to the factory reg setting and increase the hammer spring screw about 20 thousands at a time and I believe you will achieve 830 easily. My reg is back to factory and thinking about moving back closer to factory on the hammer spring adj. I've kept vary good records and can get back to factory the way it came exactly. Only reason I increased any adjustment was to explore a little faster speed with the MK ll's. So far at all my trial settings I can not get as good as groups as with the 25 grain. I'm beginning to think the twist rate needs to be changed to achieve the same accuracy as the 25's. When the 25's are shot at the same speed as the factory setting, the gun goes back to being a jaw dropping lazar. When the wind is not a factor at 75 yards I'm shooting through the same damned hole. Just amazing. I was excited about shooting the 33 grain at EBR and was putting it up aginst my Boss. Was going to shoot the best one. With EBR you have to factor in what shoots best in the wind. It's highly possible that with this twist rate I'm asking the gun to do something it's not designed for. I'll say this though. I've got nothing but praise for FX. Another thing I would like to mention for all of us that have the new Crowns and the Impacts for that matter. It's not hard to damage the gun if you adjust it wrong and then blame it on the gun. So PLEASE for those adjusting these guns beyond factory setting, if you don't know what your doing or are uncomfortable, JUST ask for help. Good Luck. Sylvan

Sylvan, Thanks for the info. I may go back to factory and sneak up on the 830 using the hammer spring depending on results of accuracy testing tomorrow. I can also leave the reg where it is and back off the hammer spring as necessary. I'm aware of removing bottle and emptying the gun of air before adjusting the reg lower. I was initially going to do that when I found it shooting lower after raising reg pressure but thought the hammer spring was the better way to fine tune it. Looking for optimum setting to get 830 for the MK II's and 880 for the King 25.39's. My gun was getting 880 at HS: 5 with the Kings at factory settings but only 810 at max with the II's. Also need to check BC at 50 yds with both pellets, II's are supposed to be better but who knows unless you try. No guarantee of accuracy either way but fun to experiment. Keep us informed of your findings as well. Same for Tominco, Monkyshine and others in search of accuracy!
