CROSSMAN 2240xl mods

Hello, recently got an XL version of the Crossman 2240 with the extended steel breech. I'm looking to change the Barrell band so I will need to remove the Barrell as the band won't slip over the end of the barrel. My question is has anyone else done this? I'm seeing that the placement of one of the small hex screws for the breech is under the bolt. I'm thinking I will need to remove the bolt handle and bolt stop at the back to slide the bolt out. Does the bolt handle unscrew? Don't really want to force it just to find out it doesn't come out that way.

Thanks.

Yes the bolt handle unscrews. Unload, degass, and decock gun. Take the rear grip frame screw out. With a finger over the gas tube rear plug (to prevent the hammer spring from shooting out) take the upper breech screw at the rear out. Remove the plug at the rear of the breech, the rear gas tube plug, and hammer spring. Remove the bolt handle and slide the bolt reward until the hidden breech screw clears. Then use a .050" allen key (ensuring it's seated as deep as possible in the 4-48 tiny breech screw as it's easy to strip) and remove it. Then unscrew the set screws on your barrel band and slide it forward. Remove the entire upper assembly noting the position of the cocking pin on the hammer and the transfer port and its seal orientation. Unscrew the barrel set screw(s), slide the barrel out of the breech, remove band reward.

reassembly is reverse.
