Crosman pcp for ar 15

It went into production, but I suspect with a price tag of $650, and you must buy a lower to go with it, and it's only a .177 designed as a 10 meter gun, it's a lot of money for what you get. If I could find one today, I'd be sorely tempted to buy it. Lothar Walthar barrel if I remember correctly, really accurate at 10 meters and you can practice with your lower. But for $650, you can run a lot of .22 long rifle through a converted upper. Just seemed to be a niche that didn't resonate with the target market.

I think the competition from the .22 conversion kits are what really killed it. Even at today's prices, you can spend under $200 for the conversion kit, and have $450 left over for .22 ammunition. I can buy a LOT of .22 ammunition for $450!

Then add in the air tanks or a pump and such required for a PCP and for the average AR-15 shooter, it really doesn't make sense. And to top that off, I believe it came out before the PCP Air Rifle revolution really took off. Fantastic design, but over priced for a very limited market segment.

To add to the complexity, if I want to shoot my pellet gun in the back yard, it's pretty much legal. If I want to shoot the MAR-177 in the back yard, it's still considered a "Fire Arm" because it sits on a registered gun (lower). I'd love to have one, but considering for the price I could buy a Marauder or three Maximus rifles or two Gauntlets, you can see the limited appeal.

Fairly sure Crosman purchased some rights to that unit from Scott (?).
An excellent product tho not intended for the general "airgun" market, just like their Bow's .... intended for different market shares. It does use air but, so does another companies "airbow" which uses air to cock a compound cross bow.

Made to give competition AR shooters trigger time, you can not practice follow through & such with a snap cap. A bit on the original design:
