So I had a Crosman NPS TR77 in my Amazon cart for the longest time. It was there even when I chose the Crosman Nitro Venom Dusk 22 a few weeks back.!!! So it showed up today.
I opened the box and first impressions. 1. This thing looks like a toy 2. The laser etching where it says 'Nitro' on the barrell looks kinda sloppy 3. The plastic barrel shroud had some glue that had squeezed out during install. No big deal, this is gonna be for the backpack anyways. Just wanted to provide some observations.
I had already had a Traxxas 5114 bearing for the trigger mod. So I removed the 3 stock bolts (all were loose,in typical Crosman fashion) and did the trigger mods. Please note, in addition to the video instructions I also remove the plastic piece that the original adjustment screw threads into.
I carefully cleaned out every threaded hole including the barrel pivot (it was also loose) , scope mounts, scope stop etc and cleaned all of the bolts with a wire brush and alcohol until they were clean. I then blue Loctited them as I reassembled it. Paying close attention to any cocking linkage areas that could use a tad bit of grease as well.
Then I used my umarex cleaning kit and pulled a WD40 soaked 17 cal mop thru the bore. The 3rd time it came out clean.
I went to my go to plinking spot and took a few shots at my 3 target spinner setup at 13 yards (hey, its all the room I had) and gave it a try. I missed a few times, each time taking aim on a far up,far left, or far right just to see where it was landing. After about 10 shots and scope adjustments I had it spinning the target every time. It stopped dieseling at about shot 4 but still is fairly loud for a pellet slinger. The next 10 shots I spun the targets every time. It seems like this little 17 is a powerhouse. Online testing and chroni readings indicate about 1050 FPS with a 7 gr pellet. It also stated that this particular model prefers the Crosman Premier Hollow Points readily available at Walmart ($7bux for 500ct)
So, its not a exotic materials, detailed, high end piece but its a hoot. I will follow up here with updates, along the way.
