Crosman Crosman Model 140 2nd Variant

I collected this rifle this week and ordered the seal kit for it. Here's my question, while it is torn apart should I refinish it and try to re-blue since it is pretty much just patina with a couple small rust spots. What keeps it the most valuable, not that I plan to sell it. I bought it for nostalgia purposes since it was like my first pellet rifle, a newer variant though.

Soak the rust in WD40 for a couple days. Then pick at it with a tooth pick. Soak some more. Steel wool is a last resort and will weaken the blue all around it. Eventually the rust spots will be negligible. Then degrease the spots. Soak a toothpick in a bluing and rub into the spot. This will best preserve what is left if the original bluing.

Having refinished many stocks and a few rifle and pistol metalworks, I've come to a higher appreciation of 'patina'. Translation- any refinishing is more involved and time-consuming than most folks imagine.

BTW, once healthy and happy (holding pressure and shooting right), it's worth $75-150 in its current cosmetic condition. No matter how well refinished, don't expect the value to increase much.
