Coyote#8 - Failed Attempt

Thanks for the video. That can happen to the best of us. Nothing 100%. You had the shot lined up perfectly and unless the sound wasn't correctly sync up with the video (it can happen on some devices) when you pulled the trigger the aim was correct. Sometimes the critters head moves at the ideal time and avoids getting hit. It just good critter karma.

@BlackICE. Thank you for watching. Yeah, it was a challenge for sure and no matter how many times I have done this, things could still go wrong. It was just a bad timing on my part and the coyote was lucky that the compose was low at the time and the concrete barrier obstructed my view.

@sasquatch. Yes, they move so much and the anticipation just increased my "buck fever" mode, making the shot that much more difficult. Looking back I wished I had waited just a bit longer to get a better shot, but my adrenaline and the fear of it running away forced me to proceed. Lots of what ifs, but lesson learned I guess. I will get another chance and do this all over again, lol. Thanks for watching.

Max, I went to YouTube to watch so I could slow it down even more. So hard to tell, couldn't see pellet in flight nor ruffling of fur indicating hit. Think you most likely just caught the meaty part of left side of neck or base of ear as its head dipped. Gonna watch it again. I admire your ethical patience.

Just can't tell. Even slowed down your slomo.

@Gerry52. I tried slowing it down as much as possible during editing and I couldn't see and confirm where exactly I made the contact. The slug definitely made contact, most likely on the upper neck/ear area as it bowed its head downward. Everything happened so fast. The 967 fps slug was too quick for my eyes nor my camera to follow. I don't recall hearing the slug smashing the concrete or seeing concrete dust on impact. That was why I was really surprised not to see a body laying on the ground when I got down there to look.

I just hope it wasn't seriously injured. I have left my trail cam there so that I can continue to monitor the area to see if any of them would return. Time will tell. I will have to be more patience and diligent with my shot selection. Thank you for watching.

You did that perfectly Max, good on you for taking the time to get a humane shot.
It just doesn’t always work out lol!
I completely understand about the racing heart, and keeping the finger off the trigger until it’s time for the shot.
As I wait for a skunk or raccoon at my bait station to get into the right position my heart races and I can feel myself sweating!😂
I don’t think I would make a good dangerous game hunter!
Thanks for sharing your hunting videos!

@sasquatch. Nicely done. You sure have a lot of coyotes showing up at your spot. Happy holidays to you and your family.

@davelarson. Yes, the adrenaline rush is addictive and unbearable. And of course the challenge of getting the perfect placement shot with my .22 cal air rifle instead of with a PB rifle. Maybe that's why I continue to torture myself with those long hours of waiting and anticipating for the prey to show up. Often many nights of disappointment when nothing showed up, lol.

You are very welcome and I am glad you guys enjoy my videos. I like to share my experience, good and bad, lol. Merry Xmas.
