Could the suburban squirrel be up for extinction

I didn’t know they were that destructive, by the sounds of it in some places you could hunt and eat squirrel all year without buying meat.

They will bark and wheeze at you, then resume taking your house apart with a smile on their face.

I used to give them a pass on my property, I've never fed them but I like to watch them. My internet went out so I called my service provider. The guy came over and fixed it and showed me the piece of cable where the squirrels had chewed through it. It's been game on ever since. I have some oaks that they love to feed on so all I have to do is wait. They just keep coming, no threat of wiping them out as far as I can tell. If I don't shoot them, they run out in the street and commit suicide.
